Older Cat Vomiting More Frequently

I have an 11 year old Maine Coon mix who is an indoor kitty. A few years ago she started vomiting constantly and then quit eating all together. She went from a 15lb cat down to a 6lb cat in a very short time period.  She was dying.  I took her to the vet and after 2 months & a feeding tube, we got her healthy again.  They never determined the actual cause of her stopping eating. They said it was probably something viral that left her sick and then she stopped eating due to her vomiting.  So she's been a happy healthy 15lb kitty again for the past 3 years. Now, for the past several months, she has been vomiting again.  Not like before, but still she vomits daily.  It's getting worse.  She vomits every time she eats.  It's not the entire amount that she eats as it was when she was getting really sick a few years ago, but enough to cause concern.  I'm curious if anyone knows if she could just be having trouble digesting the dry food? She's been fed the same food throughout her life. Purina Indoor Cat food. Well, actually when she started vomiting for a few months we tried a sensitive digestive blend but saw no difference so we went back to her regular food.  I'm considering switching her to wet food to see if that will help.  Has anyone's older kitty every started experiencing these type of troubles? I should mention her stool and urine are fine. Just vomits.  She even feels fine it seems.  Just vomits. :-/ I'm at a loss and unfortunately, I'm not at a financial point where I can take her to the vet just yet. I would try a wet food in a protein which she hasn't eaten before.  I would get a food that is as close to just the meat, liver and supplements as you can get.  Nature's Variety LTD and Wild Calling are two that you can get in unusual proteins.  EVO also makes one in Venison.  Hounds and Gatos is another one but they have a really limited store distribution, many of us have to order it on online.

When this happened before was it in the Spring during shedding season?  I know a lot of kitties are having more issues this year than usual.

Thank you! I will check for those brands.  No, it actually happened in the winter time before.  Began in December and she was very ill almost dead in January. This time, she's been vomiting since around April. But she's getting worse now.  She isn't shedding too much now, it's finally slowed. But her vomiting is worse. 

Oh! And she is a mix, so she has short hair instead of the long maine coon hair.

There are vets who could do a nice price or you can request a quote for a check up, or even a pay plan or some sort. You can also call the vet and advice what to give her to stop vomiting I am sorry about your kitty, my kitty had both-diarrhea and vomiting. I gave her tiki cat food chicken and the vomiting stopped before I went to the vet but it's not the same.. I wish you all luck and keep us updated!

What did they vet said back then when she first had these symptoms? Did they do an ultrasound ?

If your cat has inflammatory bowel disease, it can ver very inexpensive to treat with prednisilone, so all you might have to pay for is a standard vet visit and some meds as a trial.

I went though this with my now 15 yr old Main Coon. I've had good results with Nature's Variety Instinct in conjunction with his Prednislone (1cc every other day).

They did do an ultrasound, xrays and all bloodwork when she was sick before and everything was normal. They said it must have been viral and passed already just left her with anorexia.  

I will try the change in her diet and if that doesnt work, then hopefully I can get the money for a vet soon.  I hate not being able to take her. They are just too expensive around here! Hoping and crossing my fingers that diet will work.   Thank you for all the info and suggestions!  We appreciate it very much!

Hello all! I just wanted to update and let everyone know that for the past 3 days, we've done wet food instead of dry food.  She has vomited 0 times!! I can tell she feels tons better as well! I guess the dry food was just too much for her now. Thank you everyone for the advice and stuff! 

Yay good news! Still whenever you can you should take her to a vet, it's better to now sooner than later. But I'm glad she is feeling good. But remember to try to give her no grain food. It's better for their tummy

My cat Shadow vomited 2 times today and I too worry about my feline friend. We have changed the food. I have no idea how old he is but he's pretty old.

If he threw up after  you changed the food then you may want to consider returning to the old food.  If you want to continue to talk about this it would be best to start your own thread.

Make sure you transition the cat's food SLOWLY. 75% old 25% new for 2 days, 50%/50% for two days and 75% new/25% old for two days. I have learned unfortunately from experience to not suddenly change foods on a cat. (Upset stomach/vomiting/diarrhea).
