I am new to the site and after a bit of browsing, I decided to introduce myself and my kitties!

First is the magnificent Zoey - She is currently 6 years old, but still plays like a kitten!  My fiancé adopted her as a kitten from the SPCA, 4 years before we met.  The fact that he was a cat person, and that he took such good care of his girl, was one of the first things I loved about him.  It took a long time for Zoey to warm up to me, as she was used to having Tony all to herself, but now she loves me.  So much so that Tony occasionally gets jealous when she chooses to cuddle with me rather than him!

Next is Toby - world's best snuggler; a cat who believes his humans are meant for climbing.  Draped over our shoulders is his favorite napping spot! Toby has lived with us his whole life, but he was not really "ours" until he was 6 months old - a whole complicated situation with a roommate moving in with a pregnant cat and then moving out and leaving the kitten he insisted on keeping behind.  Obviously we did not name Toby; as much as the name suits him, we would not have chosen a name so similar to Tony's… Despite the fact that we did not plan on a 2nd cat, we adore Toby - he is our sweet little ninja panther and we wouldn't trade him for the world!

The 3rd kitty I feel I must introduce is Zoey and Toby's best friend and partner in crime - Odin.  Odin belongs to Tony's best friend but he comes to visit often as his dad sometimes has to travel for work.   These guys always have so much fun together, even when they are getting themselves into trouble… We named them the Super Kitty Friends.

Also, I don't have a picture yet, but we are going to be taking in a new kitten.  She is an 8 week old tortie in a not-so-awesome situation, but she'll be coming home with us Thursday.  My sister is taking another female from the same litter, and I am working on finding good homes for the other four...

Thanks everyone!  This site has been really informative, and I love seeing all the kitty pictures!

Toby is just the sweetest kitty ever!  Since he was a kitten, he has always felt safest on our shoulders.  He likes to be up high watching the world and will even take naps up there.  It was particularly adorable when he was a 2 lb kitten.  Now that he weights a solid 12 lbs., it's still cute, but a little heavy...

Tony obviously has broader shoulders, and is therefore a more preferable perch...

But I'll do in a pinch!

Oh, I love all the photos!  Toby's a character, isn't he.  I love the "Super Kitty Friends".  I have three who love each other, too, and we call them The Three Amigos. I hope your new buddy fits in as well.  So good of you to help try to find homes for her siblings.  Do you have a name for the new baby yet?

Welcome to TCS!

Welcome to TCS!
I feel a sort of obligation to this particular litter of kittens.  They come from my cousin who is incredibly irresponsible with her cat.  She refuses to get the poor thing spayed so Baby Nathan has at least one litter every year.  When she can't find homes for the kittens, she drops them off at any random barn.  Until I started questioning her about the kittens, she hadn't even bothered to count haw many there were or look to see what the sexas were.  This year she had finally made an appointment to get the cat spayed, as a lot of people (including me) have been giving her grief about it - but then Baby Nathan was noticeably pregnant before the appointment.  She says she is going to reschedule the spay as soon as the kittens have homes, so I am doing my best to make sure that happens!

Since Tony and I are finally in a position to take in a 3rd (and she just happens to have a tortie, my favorite!) we decided to help her out.  I have found good homes for 3 of the others, and my cousin is insisting that her kids need to keep one (the one they want to keep is a boy - I'm incredibly nervous that she won't either of them fixed…).

So, I just need to find a home for the solid black boy… Tony and I would have taken him rather than the tortie because we both love black cats and know that many people are less likely to choose a black cat over a tabby or calico… but our Toby tends to have issues with other male cats and we didn't want to cause too much of a disruption in our household.  The only other male he likes is Odin, and they've been friends since Toby was only a few weeks old.

As for names I really like Matilda - or Tildie for short.  Tony and I are both big fans of Game of Thrones, and he wants to name her Arry after Arya Stark.  We are going to have to get to know her personality before we decide anything for sure.

We are headed over there this afternoon to check on the kittens and my cousin would like me to take them ASAP so she "doesn't have to worry about them anymore."  As if she really worries about them at all… They are just 8 weeks, so I would like them to stay with their mom (Baby Nathan is a wonderful mom!) a little longer, but I will just have to get a feel for things.  I worry that if I don't take them by this weekend at the latest, they are going to start being passed out to any random person who will take them.  So I might be coming home with a kitten, or 2, or 3 tonight… I will keep everyone updated!

And sorry of this sort of turned into a rant… I just don't understand how someone can afford to buy $100 shoes for all 5 of her kids and a new car every 3 years, but can't afford to get her cat spayed.  Not to mention the 2 other female cats she has had to have that have mysteriously disappeared after a year or 2.  I am 25 years old, working 3 jobs to pay the bills and go to grad school but I can still manage to afford vet care for my cats.  She is 40, doesn't bother to work since she lives off of child support and other people's handouts, yet she still expects people to feel sorry for her because she can't afford to spay her cat.  I have to work very hard to be nice to her since I would rather find homes for the kittens myself than trust her judgment on what qualifies as a good home...

What adorable kitty friends!

Your cousin does sound quite frustrating. I hope you can find good homes for the kittens. Have you mentioned to her that CCA has low cost spay certificates that she can apply for?

Toby reminds me very much of our Emily. Always has to be high up, and loves to ride around on your shoulder. Thankfully she's not as heavy as your Cat-Parrot though!

We have tried to get her to look into those programs, to no avail…  Her sister even offered to pay for the surgery last year but she wasn't interested.

I have 2 of the kittens at my house right now though, and they are doing really well!  They are eating and drinking well, using the litter box like pros and have been having a blast playing in our guest bedroom.  I just treated them for fleas, worms and ear mites and once I am sure the fleas are all gone, we will start introductions with Zoey and Toby.  My sister and her boyfriend are on their way to visit for a long weekend and will be taking one of the kittens with them when they leave.  They don't have a name chosen yet (we try to get to know our pets a little before naming them) but Tony and I are thinking we will call our little girl Ruby.  It took me from Tuesday night until about an hour ago to convince him that her name would NOT be Rumpie...

I have a lot of pictures on my phone, so I'll upload a few momentarily.  They are beautiful little girls!

How frustrating, I hope she agrees to spay her cat this time. Looking forward to the pictures!

My little girl, Ruby (or Rhubarb, or Rumpie)

She is rarely still…

My sister's little girl.  No name yet.

Pardon the ugly carpet… We haven't had a chance to make many changes to our new house yet.

The first thing they did when I brought them home was eat… They were both so hungry they each ate almost a whole bowl!

Tony couldn't resist her…

Dang that is really to bad. What is her reasoning for not allowing a family member take her in to get her fixed? Honestly. And is she an outdoor kitty or go outside or is it her offspring getting her preggo?

I was told the litter *after* my kittens (we got 12+ years ago) were seriously deformed. As were the litters after. Not only physically but some mental issues. The mom got pregnant as soon as she could after each litter. Not known if it was one of hers or another feral cat(s) knocking her up. Sounds like it was a pretty decent size colony of various cats. Lived in an old un occupied barn or detached garage. Various types, ages, sexes. None were fixed. As far as I knew up until we moved, the mom was having litters. Made me really sad when I heard it.

She usually just gets all offended and says she's going to take her in to be spayed "as soon as the kittens are gone."  But it obviously has not happened yet.  She is an "indoor" kitty that goes outdoor whenever she wants ; they don't really keep track of her comings and goings.  Two of my cousins other adult cats that were also having litters of kittens went missing sometime between last summer and now… She didn't really seem too concerned about it, or the possibility that it might happen to this cat.  What really scares me though is that she's talking about keeping one of the male kittens.  I can see her not getting either fixed and then acting surprised when she starts getting litters of stillborn or seriously unwell kittens.  It's so sad when things like this are happening when they are so easily prevented.  Especially with my cousin who is a really intelligent person and knows what she's doing to her cat.  She just doesn't care...

Sometimes I feel like I am enabling her by finding homes for these kittens, but I don't really know what else to do…

Yeah, it really is a mess!

On the plus side though, two of the kittens are now in my home.  They have been treated for fleas, worms and ear mites and their bellies are full.  I will obviously be getting my little girl spayed and making sure she has all of her shots.  If she gets sick, I'll be taking her to the vet.  My sister will be doing the exact same thing with her little girl.

So at least these two will be happy and healthy.  And I'll be trying to find similar situations for the rest of them!

In the meantime, I plan on making a total pest of myself until their mother is fixed!

So much cute!!!! Ruby/Rumpie is a lovely little face! Best of luck with your cousin. I might take the underhanded tack and tell the kids that if the cats don't get the "surgery" they'll die or run away. It's evil, but it'll put pressure on her...
Don't hang me for it. I'm just saying.

 Hi !

Absolutely beautiful cats. It is also obvious that they have a great home.
