I have read the posts regarding feral kittens and rabies.  I have three (new) feral kittens that have been isolated for several weeks while I feed them and give them fresh water daily.  From what I've been reading, it is safe to assume they do not have rabies.  We are at the "talking stage," as an attempt to familiarize them with our voices and to overcome their fear of humans. They, of course, are adorable.  This is my second go-around with feral kittens.  First time "mama cat," had five and we took them in, rid them of fleas (using Dawn dish soap and warm water - Googled the info), gave them what we feel is the best food possible, and held them every evening for about an hour.  Had to wrap each one in a clean towel.  It took us (my husband and me) about two months to win their trust and have them feel safe.  It was a task but we were well rewarded with their love.  I have given three to WONDERFUL homes, and kept two.  I am hooked on cats.  We have tried at least a dozen times to get daddy and mama who have been residents here for a very long time.  They are smart and have dodged the trap every time.  I just want to get them spayed/neutered and release them back on the property.  Any suggestions??!!

If there is a Tractor Supply Company store near you, you can get a pair of traps for about $40 (it's a special going on) ad perhaps you ca trap them.  Keep trap doors open and feed them in traps for some time before you set the trap to catch them, because if you miss, they'll likely not go in the traps again.  Good luck!

For hard to trap cats, you might want to consider a drop trap.  If your husband is handy, he can make one for $20-$30.  Do a google search on cat drop traps or how to make cat drop trap and there is lots of info.

Feeding them in the trap is another great tip.  Start by making sure the trap cannot go off.  I use zip ties or a rod to keep it from snapping shut.  Put the food just outside the trap.  After a day or two place it just inside the trap.  Keep moving the food back every few days.  Be sure the trap is lined with old newspapers or puppy pee pads so they don't see the trap plate.
