Hi, I have recently been cheking out the Javanese and Balinese breeds. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with these cats. What is there temperment, personality, any genetic things to watch for...ect. They seem to be a kind of rare breed. Anyway help would be great!

I can do some research for ya. I do know that a Balinese is essentially a long haired siamese. I would imagine you would be looking at the same temperment as a siamese and the same health risks. Of course, buy buying from a reputable breeder the health risks are pretty minimal. I will get back to this one though.

The Balinese is a long haired Siamese and has the same personality traits, the same body build, etc. The only thing different between the Balinese and the Siamese is the length of hair. I know nothing of a breed called Javinese and could not find it in my judge's book - how about you Imagyne? Did you find anything in the cat fancy about this breed? Is it a breed?

Thanks everyone, That's mostly what I know about them too. Yes, Javanese is a breed. Balinese is only allowed the same colors as Siamese but the Javanese breed was introduced recently and a lot of other colors are allowed. I was wondering if there are any breeders on the forum?

I have a female Traditional Balinese Named Mimi.
I got this information from:

www.breedlist.com
This site has information on almost every kind of cat breed.

The Traditional Balinese (aka Applehead Balinese) cat combines the unique personality and intelligence, robust body type, pointed coloring, and the minimal shedding of the Traditional Siamese, with a softer voice and a silky coat.

They are extremely intelligent, curious and loving. Agile, swift, muscular and extremely intelligent, they love to play fetch or to make up other games. They get along easily with other cats and with dogs and yet are independent enough to adjust to periods of being alone.

While they still 'talk' like their Siamese cousins, their voices are far softer and they speak only when they have something they feel is important to say. They are very alert to their owners and surroundings, but not a hyperactive cat. Rather, they maintain an easy balance of playing and napping depending on the circumstances.
