Hello, I just got a little 6 week old little guy today. We named him Oliver. Anyways, he just turned 6 weeks yesterday and the owner wasn't enforcing litter training at all as his cats are indoor/outdoor. I have had Oliver now for about 9 hours and he has not peed or pooped at all. He has drank 2tbsp of milk replacement and moistened dry food (I got a grain free, all natural food for him). So he has definitely eaten and drank some, but still no potty. Is this normal? I have read some mixed emotions on him leaving his mom but the owner wanted the kittens gone. I have also put him in the litter box at least a dozen times and tried the warm wash cloth stimuli, nothing. Any advice?? Thanks!

Confined to small room. But he has learned it and has gone poop once and pee 3 times! :) I think the sweet little guy was just nervous. I riled him up and played with him for a solid 25 minutes and then put him into the litter box and boom, he went!

Yes, it was surely so.  Its quite common they dont "visit the bathroom" in the beginning.

Be very mommy to him, as he is so tiny.  Consider also to get another cat for him to have cat company.   You will see it is almost just advantages.

Re the food.  The dry food you got is surely first rate and excellent.  But consider to use wet food too (ie canned / from pouches).  Its easier to make good wet food, than good dry food.  So while you must actively seek after good dry food, almost any wet food will be OK.

Good luck!

Since he is still small / should be with Mama, Around lunch time I gave him dry food mixed with replacement milk (it turned soggy) and then he nibbled quite a few times on hard food then around evening I did dry mixed wit water. he loved it. Then a couple hours ago I gave him 2tbsp of replacement milk. But I will definitely look into some wet!

How much and often is average for a six week old kitten to eat? I am doing alternating milk replacement, dry food mixed with water, dry food mixed with milk replacement and dry food plain. He seems to only nibble. Mind you, I have had him for one day.

At least, 4x a day.  And as much as he wants.      Some have food out for them the whole time, at least, the dry food.

As you yourself hint, in the beginning he will prob ate less then usual, still being nervous so lacking appetite.  Also, by the same reason, not playing as much as a kitten usually do.

You can have  your questions in the same thread.  Making new thread just if something really new or dramatic happens.

I shall ask a mod to merge this question with your thread you do already have.

Good luck!
