My family adopted a two week old kitten two weeks ago. All as been going well as far as bottle feeding, litter box, etc. However she/he is slowly loosing her/his once long hair and now has very slick hair with a few long hairs still remaining. Is this normal? What does it mean? The kitten doesn't have anything (ring work, etc) I don't believe. everything is normally except the hair loss. Also the hair loss is primarily along the neck, back, and stomach. With long hair still on the head, feet, and tail. Thanks for the help!

Oh poor kitty !! No this is definitely not normal at all. He/she really needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

It looks a bit like fox mange or some sort of mite.

I also want to say that now looking closer it appears that there still is fur just not any long hair anymore. It's not just skin there is a small layer of fur over her body just to be clear! :)

Yeah I can see the thin layer of fur you mean. But this still is not normal at all
I'm glad you can get her to a vet so soon  Please let us know how you get on :D
