My happy place.
We have just finished improving our enclosure and thought we would share some pictures of how it evolved.

It started off as a catio.

Then we decided that we would extend one side.

We added lots of high shelves for them so they could spy on the neighbours.View media item 221066
As we had already extended half we thought we might as well do the whole garden.

We added more poles & shelves and built them a 'cat shack' and an outside loo too.View media item 221074
Some views out into the enclosure.

It has a solar light inside so they can see what they are doing in the dark!

My hubby thinks they need a rope bridge?? where we will put that I do not know!!

Do you have an enclosure? I would love to see some pics.

Brilliant!

I'm not in to gardening but that is one awesome garden! It looks beautiful and it is completely decked out with cats in mind!  What could be more perfect.  If there was an award for such things I think you would be right there on the podium.

Thank you for your kind comments. Some people think we are a bit loopy, my workmates joke about keeping my cats in a cage but, hey. We are feeding a stray at the moment and I registered him as found on our local pet finding service and I was so saddened by the amount of lost cats within a mile of my home. There was 24!! I can't imagine what those families must be going through.
I'm not into gardening, that's why we have mainly gravel and shrubs, plants that are really easy to tend to. We have had to lay lots of slabs because my Sasha doesn't like walking on gravel.
It all lights up at night too, there are solar lights all over.
We love it and our kitties are happy and safe.:catguy:

If I had a garden it is definitely what I would want to do.  Those people who are joking about you have no idea what a wonderful safe haven you are now able to provide.   Your cats are incredibly lucky to live with you.

Wow, what an awesome job!  lt looks perfect.

You should set up a business building people catios to keep them safe. l think you'd be surprised how many of us "loopy" people there are
.

You might need to transplant the Maple tree though, or it'll go through the roof.

Wow - I am impressed.  Our enclosure was built for our two semi-feral cats.  I could not stand the idea of them wandering the neighborhood (we live near a very busy road).  They have a large barn with a litter box and straw for beds, a rabbit hutch which holds their water fountain, several smaller houses and lots of shelves.  I've recently completed their outside potty by filling a raised garden bed with drainage rocks and sand.

I have basil and mint planted in there but it is not formally landscaped like yours.  Where did you get their "cat shack?"  I really love that!

Our humble enclosure - it measures around 15' x 40'.

Wow, that's a great cat enclosure. You're kitties must be very happy. What are the poles covered with? Are they for scratching or can they climb up them?

We've just bought a place of our own and are putting up a fence so the kitties will have their own patch of forest to run around in. It's a bit too big for us to landscape as beautifully as you have done with your garden, but I think they are going to appreciate having all those trees to climb.

This is what it looked like when we first bought it, 3 weeks ago. I've cleared a lot of it now. It's not looking quite so Blair Witch.

Have to take some photo's when I go up there tomorrow and show you what we've done so far.

Gorgeous!  Your kitties are very lucky!

I think you're loopy too! But hey! I like loopy!   LOL   If I had a house I'd have a cat enclosure in my yard too!

If word gets out to all the strays about the lavish digs at your place a lot more will be knocking at your back door. [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

Ondine, your enclosure is as big as my whole garden! I didn't know cats liked basil, I might have to try them with that. Our 'cat shack' was made by my husband, he's very handy like that. We got the idea from a rabbit hutch we saw in a pet shop.

I would love to have somthing a bit more wild but we just made the best of what we have. Your cats are going to love having those trees to climb. What a beautiful place to live!

The poles that are open to the elements are covered with nylon rope like what climbers use so they don't rot and the one undercover is sisal. They can scratch them as well as climb.

Looking forward to seeing more pic's.

It's funny that other people have said that too about going into business. The whole enclosure has evolved over the past 3 years, slowly getting bigger and bigger. We have to stop now as there is no more garden left!

I have to cut my tree right back to the trunk every year because it would be out the roof. It grows so fast!

I would love that enclosure for my two yorkie mixes. I have to walk them on a leash because they are escape artists. Both my cats are feral, so they lived outside before coming to me so it is now impossible to keep them in.

That's a lovely space you have. Do you actually get any birds on the feeders with cats around? That's one thing I do miss, watching the birds. Your cats and dogs are gorgeous by the way!

When we first rescued Monty our boy when he was 4 years old he used to roam. There were countless nights I would sit at the window worrying why he had not come home or even if he would come home at all. Many times he would come walking down the path with fight wounds, claws sticking in him, ripped ears and blood on him. We spent so much money at the vet, it was like his second home!

When we got Sasha we decided that we would build the catio. Monty HATED IT, he would pace up and down and that went on for a few weeks until he finally calmed down and accepted it. I almost caved in and let him out many times but we stuck with it and it all turned out good in the end.

A few years ago I would of laughed at the idea of having my garden covered with a cage but I can honestly say that it's the best thing we ever did.

Yes I feed all the birds seed, bread and peanuts. I put out uneaten food for any creature passing by. My cats have killed a few birds but mostly chipmunks and moles. The squirrels and Blue jays and ducks keep the cats from going after small sparrows. Here is a picture of two guests a deer and a raccoon.
