My BFF is having a 10th birthday party for her son tomorrow. Sinch he's now into the double digits, she is having it at a hall.

I'm getting a headache just thinking about all of those kids running around! OMG!  I'm not a fan of kids, especially large groups of rowdy ones! My stomach is in absolute knots and I keep trying to find a way to get out of going.

But after the fit she had when I backed out of going to that expensive restaurant for her friend's birthday, I dare not.

I booked my rides tomorrow so that I will be there for about 2 1/2 hours, instead of the 5 or 6 hours that it's planned for.  I figure I'll show up but still leave in time to keep my sanity!  LOL

FIVE OR SIX HOURS for a kid's birthday party?!  Holy guacamole!
I would get a headache thinking about it, too.    Smart planning to go for 2 hours or so.

If she's your best friend, though, she must know who you are and will understand it's not your 'thing'.  Right?

Those are some brave parents to throw a party for that length of time!  But then my kids usually get pizza birthdays and I call it a night.

I would also probably go for a bit and then leave like you've got planned.

For our grandson's last birthday (he turned 7), they had the party at a bowling hall. The kids were able to bowl a few games (or try to
), then they had pizza and cake. The kids had a blast. Rick went to the party at the bowling alley, but he dropped me off at their house first. We had a family party after the bowling party and our DIL's mother and  I spent the time working on that while everybody was out of the house. (I don't do well with fifteen 7-year olds in one place at one time. You want to talk about a headache!)

I am normally not fan of large group of kids either, but it also depends on where they are at! If they're at a bounce house or some place where they can run around by themselves and I can hang with the adults, great. if I am mingled in a house with kids.. nope.

I love my nieces, but sometimes being with just the 3 of them causes a headache! They do not stop! I understand where you are coming from for sure!

You want to try 5 grandsons!
I'm not a great fan of kids either which is why I only
had two.
A hall party because he's gone I to double numbers! It's bad enough having to have barmizvahs when they turn 13.
The friend wouldn't understand if she didn't go. There was a scene regarding the ridiculously expensive restaurant! You're still BF's?
One hour would be quite enough for me. I try to get out of these things when I can.
Good luck.

Hopefully they have some kind of organized events for the kids, so they aren't just running around burning off sugar. I agree that your friend is brave having such a long party - 2-1/2 hours for a kid's party is my limit, too.

Do you need gift ideas or did you get him something already?

It isn't that far from my home, so if I find that I'm really not tolerating it well, I'll call a cab and leave after 90 minutes or so!  LOL

My BFF can be a bit selfish.

I ended up not going. I wasn't feeling very well yesterday.  My legs were very swollen and I was really short of breath so I took some medication to get rid of some of the excess fluid I was retaining, and more again today.

I don't know what he likes, because all he does is talk about Spiderman and plays computer games.  So I got him a card and put $20.00 in it.  The next time I see him, I'll give it to him and he can go and buy something he wants.

That is a good gift I was going to suggest an iTunes card. I used to make origami shapes with the $20 bills for kids' birthday gifts (easy instructions are online), but now the bills are plastic so it doesn't work.

Hope you feel better very soon.

iTunes wouldn't be good for him.  His family is from Pakistan. His Mom was born here, but she mostly listens to Pakistan music.

And I love the idea of origami, but as you said,  because of our plastic money, it won't work!  LOL

I figure two $10 bills will be good for him.  He'll probably spend it on junk though.  He's obsessed with candy and anything sugar.

Was anything said about you not going?

Not really.  She sent me a text late that night and asked me what happened. I just told her that I wasn't feeling well

Good. I'm glad that was all that happened.
