I doubt there are any studies on cats that would tell us one way or another. I'm assuming you mean just in general and not to treat any specific ailment? I did see a study about alkaline water possibly helping with acid reflux in humans.

You are right - there seem to be mixed reviews on this. The positive ones are mostly on sites that market ionized water for cats and humans, for example multiple testimonials on a couple of water ionizer websites said that the ionized alkaline water made their pets drink more water (this might/might not help with issues like constipation). But there aren’t many negative testimonials pet-wise, probably because most of them are on marketing sites.

The only possible way I could see it helping is if the water could somehow counteract the acidic buildup (caused by eating acidic diets) and help flush toxins out (like vball91 stated), but I don’t know if that’s even possible.

Some marketers/people say that alkaline water could possibly treat cancer in humans. However, a lot of scientists/doctors (e.g. Dr. Mercola) say that the whole thing is a fad and that alkaline treatments don’t produce any sort of desired effect.

Are you planning on using alkaline water in the near future for any specific purpose?

My 15 year old cat has hypothyroidism however i have thinking of giving it to her for that and general health. I have taken my self daily for months at a time, my health does seem to improve. I 100% give her Brita water for 15 years, never can remember if she drank tap water even once.

After posting my last post, i needed to clarify what i said, also i had second thoughts.

I gave my cat alkaline water to drink and she did,[ a name brand alkaline brand.]  The next morning i found she had urinated in her bed a little.  Two days later, i gave her more alkaline water to drink, she did and overnight urinated a lot more in her bed.   My second thoughts is alkaline water may not be good for cats after all.

I have been drinking alkaline water for 6 yrs and I have my own machine (I am 60and very healthy, people think I am in my late 30's early 40's I kid you not, great for the skin. It was $2500, but well worth it! There is a big difference in buying it in a bottle and making your own as mine also oxygenates it and it only last about 2 hrs.  It stays alkaline but the oxygen dissipates you can clearly see it.. I also have been giving it to my cats for about 5 yrs and they are now 14 yrs old with NO sickness what so ever and healthy like 4 yr olds.  The only thing I did notice is more frequent and volume of urination, but in their box not their beds, that's a good thing cats historically have problems with kidneys stones (from their food) and constipation.  My vote is too give my cats alkaline water. If your cats were NOT going in their bed before then I wouldn't until I had he/she checked out.

I'm not sure if alkaline water is bad for cats; maybe check with a vet. I have had a cat who developed urinary crystals & the vet advised me cats need to produce acidic urine to help prevent them & prescribed a low ph (not alkaline) diet. Many factors likely contribute to that condition so the ph of what cats ingest may only play a part in it. Also cat metabolisms are apparently a bit different than people's; I've drank alkaline water for years with great benefits. Hope this helps!
