My Bengal 3 yr old kitty got some kind of injury, maybe a coyote tooth in her thigh muscle behind her knee? She was down for a day then seemed fine. But ever since, and that was 2 months ago, sometimes she growls for a sec when we're petting her, even tho she's purring. Like as if we went across a painful spot.

Vet couldn't find anything. Said sometimes there can be lingering nerve pain. Anyone have any experience w this?

Never heard of that.  Hopefully someone will come along with some experience with this.

Nerves heal very slowly and depending on how bad the damage is it can take months to heal. There is a chance she could always be sensitive in that area. If you notice it getting worse or notice any other symptoms such as lameness you should def take her back to the vet.

I see this happening a few times a year. Some type of physical injury, especially to the hind end / tail areas kicks it off, and then months later they develop hyperesthesia. I always try to make sure it isnt concurrent arthritis or inflammation going on. Almost always I do a trial of several types of pain medications that work on different parts of the body to try and pinpoint where the issue is. Laser therapy as well...

hope that helps,

k
