Even with a glowing inspection stuff happens.  I would get things for the house slowly, I would not put much into it just yet until I was settled and see if I needed other items first.  If the house has been sitting awhile with no one living in it make sure all works through daily use and see if there is anything you want to change now rather then "live with it" till you have more money.  All was great on our report and then months later had a sewer partially collapse.

I’d go for the furniture.

Tell everyone that you'd really like to go on the cruise, but you just can't afford it. They'll either get the hint and offer to pay for you to go. (Think of it as compensation for all that baby-sitting you'll have to do!) Or they'll drop it and then after the cruise you can invite them all round to sit on your nice new furniture and show you their holiday snaps.

I will admit my vote is biased because I really need a new couch (thanks to john jacob the wild & unruly kitten) and a friends boyfriend recently returned from a cruise with food poisoning. Also, my family is not big on togetherness, but if yours is, then maybe the cruise is the better choice.

I hate to say this @Draco.
...since you are leaning towards the new furniture, but I would go on that cruise in a heartbeat, because life is too short and made up of fantastic memories for you and your family.

I would do what @peaches08 suggested and just buy nice sofa covers, or even material and sew them together.

But I can just hear the family, at thanksgiving talking about the cruise and sharing photos (and that is not a guilt trip)...since you could always say to your mom...."hey mom....do you think some early christmas money in july, can come my way?"....lol   just my opinion.....whatever you decide is cool.

Oh, quick questions: Did you go with family to Jamaica? and did you have a good time?

If the trip is still fresh in your mind, then it'll carry you over to the next trip.

I've decided I can't stand upsetting my mom so I'm taking the cruise. I will find a way to get furniture- one piece at a time

I know furniture is better choice in the end but family does come first

Honestly, I live in a very small house in a marginal neighborhood. We choose to stay here because we LOVE vacations (not cruises, but to each his own). We also love home improvement, or at least we tell ourselves that so we don't kill each other.

I hope you have fun. Is it a Disney cruise?

I'm sure I will have fun, regardless. It's a Carnival cruise. I am not a fan of Carnivals, but it is cheapest.

I can see both sides of the coin here.

My vote is for the cruise,m not because it is a cruise, but because it is time with Mom.

My Mom died 2 weeks before I turned 16 years old. I miss her terribly, every single day. I'd give anything to be able to spend even 1 more hour with her.

You only have 1 Mom, and one day she won't be here and you will be wishing for the same thing I do.

I know you are buying a new home and that you need stuff for it, but you can get furniture anytime, but you won't always be able to reach out and touch your Mom.

Go with the furniture, definitely.  You can live without a cruise but you can't live without furniture in your new place.  A cruise will be over in no time and you will come home to an empty condo, what's the sense in that.  Buy yourself some nice furniture and enjoy it.

I think you'll enjoy the Carnival cruise. We've been on quite a few lines, our favorite was Princess, but lately we've been doing Carnival and it has always been great. Rooms are larger, prices are better, food is great, and there is a great mixture of ages - young and old. I know you'll have many happy memories of the cruise and when you come back you can save for the furniture --- and put a pictue of you on the cruise on your coffee table!!!

Enjoy --- life is short!

Is guilt the strongest force in the universe?
I hope you have a great time on the cruise!
It really is!
My mother wants to do a cruise or Caribbean vacation for my Aunt's birthday next year.  A girls only trip in the middle of summer.  Guilt, guilt, guilt!

Have fun!  I've been on 2 cruises and I loved them!

Well. You've chosen the cruise. You do need some rest and relaxation. I'm sure you'll get some
You can still put some money aside for a new couch.
Enjoy and put all what you went through to get your house.
I'd love to go on a cruise then 6 months at a spa to lose all the weight
Of course I'd have to be a millionaire. If I do go away it's to England where I stay with my sister.
Last time I had enough forgotten the word for s free flight. So it was a free holiday except for spending money.

Go on your cruise with a light heart. Put all the worries of the last few months aside
Who looks after the kitties?
:hugs:
