I wish I had an answer for you......perhaps the next time you do a routine vet visit you can bring in pictures and ask.

I'm not really concerned about it because he is 4.5 years old and it has always happened, but it's weird and I haven't found anyone else who has seen this. I will have to ask the vet when they go for their annual

I was thinking the same thing. Pointed domestic cats and Siamese alike, are born with heat reactive pigments in their white coats. It's a form of albinism.

Your boy has a pretty "lynx pattern" to his pointed coat.

Well, I'm from Thailand. I think you'd better ask a vet. I think it's look like the nose colour change because of nose moistness which it's correlate to what you told that the dark area is gone after you gave him a heated blanket.   My cats (I have only Siamese or local Thaicat)  sometime got  a look darker and very wet nose too. Their nose will change depend on their heart rate for example it will be white pale when a cat sleep and getting very pink when he panic or play with others. Normally the white or fair colour would better show this charateristic than dark colour cats.

Here is pic of my passed away cat he was quite white so his nose show the colour change distinctively.

Normally nose...

Sleeping nose ( looks pale)

Panic nose (wait to met a vet) ....  you may notice that the pink area glowed up on the top of the nose too.

I have a domestic medium hair cat, his nose weirdly enough changes colors too. I also believe that it has a lot to do with heart rate as @PeachyBKK pointed out. My boy's nose will change color depending on what is going on around the house. When he is relaxed, it tends to stay on the pale side almost white in color, then if he is affectionate it will turn a soft pink. If he is playing with his buddy or if he is scared it will turn a dark pink in color.

I don't think it is anything to worry about. In fact I did mention it to my vet once and they were not concerned about it at all. I think it is actually cute.
It's nice to know what mood kitty is in by the color of his nose.

I agree with @Mewlittle and @bigperm20 that it is his Siamese colorpoint gene kicking in.  The kittens are born pure white because the temperature in the womb is evenly warm., but after they are born, the cooler areas of the body turn darker.  If they are shaved, the hair will come in dark in the shaved area at first and lighten as the hair grows and the skin turns warmer again. Since his nose darkens in winter, and lightens in summer, the color change from light to dark is a direct result of the cooler temperature.

Sometimes a cat's heritage could come into play. For example, HImalayan's fur changes with hot and cold weather. In the heat my grey HImalayan with blue eyes turns white mostly with darker markings of a siamese.

My rainbow kitty had a pink nose that changed color constantly. It was sometimes almost white and other times really dark. She lived seventeen years this way so I can't imagine it is a problem.
