Yesterday I bought a potted Oriental lily to put outside on my balcony. My thinking was that it would be okay since my cat is strictly indoors and there is no chance he would ever get to it. I naively bought the plant before learning just how toxic they really are to cats. I didn't realize that even the pollen from lilies can be deadly. So my question is how concerned should I be about the pollen? I'm thinking in terms of it floating in through the window screen or perhaps getting on my clothing and then transferring over to my cat if he rubs up against me.

I think about all the outdoor cats who surely must be exposed to pollen all the time. Am I being too paranoid here? I would obviously never keep a lily inside.
