We rescued a Siamese mix from the shelter a year and a half ago when he was around 3 months. Had been returned because he had the runs and made a lot of noise (I'd say that the Siamese in him) After having coccidia we later after lots of treatments got the giardia diagnosis and ultimately found out that he had cryptosporidium. Anywho, after having the sampling test done after a few rounds of treatments he has IBD.

We have finally been able to wean him down to 1.25 mg of prednisolone a day to control his inflammation which has been keeping him stable with very few flare ups. (He used to have to take 5 mg a day) and is on a small dose of metronidazole every other day (which I would like to get off of as well and my other reason for finding him a good probiotic). My vet has him take half of a prostora probiotic which is marketed to dogs but apparently can work for cats. I would love to find an alternative to this probiotic where I get more for my money (It's 15 chew tabs split to make about 30 pills for my boy at around $30/pack)

I want to be mindful of his sometimes sensitive system. I have tried to feed him raw but he resists. Vet has me feed him a single protein source food which is now duck because he has a disdain for venison I guess. So he is on the Natural Balance Duck & Pea formula in the canned at vet. This is a victory because he has been on the Purina EN, RC Gastrointestinal High Energy (because of his young age he needs the extra energy) and both RC hypoallergenic foods.

Anyone care to share thoughts on finding him a good and more economical and even beneficial probiotic? I have tried both Kefir and yogurt but he doesn't much care for it. He takes a couple licks and walks away

Many of us on this site use human grade probiotics instead of pet probiotics. Two popular ones are the Natural Factors Double Strength Acidophilus & Bifidus and the Nexabiotic 19 strain. They can be sprinkled on the wet food once or twice a day.

Is that a capsule? He takes pills really well so it would almost be easier to pill him than sprinkle on his food. Murray is notoriously finicky about his food.

They are capsules but pretty big. You may need to split them into smaller gel capsules.
