I have an appointment to take her to the vet next week, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what it might be. When I adopted her, my cat already had a history of dermatitis issues prompted by the severe case of fleas she had when she arrived at the shelter (the attendants told me that when she came in, they basically had to shave her because her entire hindquarters and neck were more flea than hair) and the allergic reaction that she had to them afterward.
While I thought we had managed to get all of that finally cleared up back in April (I adopted her in January), she's started getting scabby mats of fur, blood, and dead skin around her neck again, and most recently, a large patch of hair between her shoulder blades has fallen out to reveal a patch of skin dotted with little red bumps. The issue is that I can't tell whether this is a skin issue in and of itself, or just little bloody dots from where she's scratched it into bleeding.
I have checked thoroughly, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of fleas having returned. I have also checked her bowel movements, and she doesn't seem to have any sign of worms either. And the only thing I can think that I've been doing differently is that I recently swapped her wet food to a more heavily meat based product (from Friskies to Wellness) in the hopes of clearing up the stomach issues that she had on the other one. Is there a potential that she's reacting badly to an ingredient in it that the other food didn't have?
