My 10 week old kitten was fine yesterday morning and in the afternoon when I came home on my break from work. He was running around and messing with our 1 year old cat like he always does. However, when I got home after work at about 5pm, he was 'sleepy' and in an unusual way.. His head kept nodding and his eyes- he looked like he wasn't focusing on anything! I thought maybe he was just tired so we let him be but this morning he is still 'napping'. He will look around to see what we are doing but then go right back to sleep! I've tried to cool him off with a damp towel because it's gotten really got outside and I've tried to make him eat and drink and he's only done so on his own ONCE since yesterday evening. We don't have an emergency clinic here and everyone's closed for the holiday so I'm just hoping he gets better or at very least not any worse! [emoji]128534[/emoji]

Sounds like an emergency!  a vet visit asap is in order.

Meantime, it MAY be the heat, as you say.  Make sure he has lots of water to drink.  He seems dehydrated!

Forcefeed with a syringe or dropper, corner of the mouth, tummy down.

You can have some white caro syrup, honey or glucose sugar (best! Dextrose common brand name) on his gum, as mentioned below.

You can also have a little of these sugar-sources and a little salt in the water you forcefeed him with, it will become a sort of basic homemade pedialyte.

15-18 grammes sugar-source and 3 grammes salt in a litre of water is the ideal dilution.

Proceed this with cooling with a damp cloth or somiliar, good idea of you!

Good luck!

Do you have karp syrup?  Corn syrup??  He may havelow blood sugar.   Keep putting it in his mouth and try to get him to drink..use syringe if you have to..It may take a while if it is this!  He needs to be feed often!

pamela derouen pamela derouen I don't have either of those things [emoji]128532[/emoji] I will take a look in my kitchen for something- maybe honey?? [emoji]128563[/emoji] and yes I have been getting him to eat a little bite here and there since last night but this morning he's not interested [emoji]128529[/emoji] I don't have a syringe either so I poured some drinking water into a plastic Baggie and cut off the tip to drip the water into his mouth lol he was irritated but he lapped up what was given him.[emoji]128574[/emoji][emoji]128584[/emoji]

If your cat is still conscious and can swallow, give it a sugar solution such as corn syrup, maple syrup or honey. If it is not able to swallow, rub this solution onto the mucous membranes of the cat's cheeks. Never force fluids or food into the mouth and be very careful to avoid getting bitten.

It is important to follow up with your veterinarian, even if your cat appears to be fine.

Ps.  Make sure your 1 year old resident has lotsa to drink, him too, several different water cups, for example!

a water fountain, for example drinkwell, is another good solution.

If I may add: he is no longer 'wobbly' or 'unfocused'. Yet he still just sits there, gazing sloooowly around the house, before he falls right back to sleep [emoji]128529[/emoji]
No crusty/runny nose it eyes, no 'wheezing' or labored/shallow breathing and so far I'm taking this as a GREAT sign. With all of this in mind, may I have your thoughts? [emoji]128533[/emoji]

If you are able to take his temperature then do it. I've had several kittens with different bacterial infections that made me suspicious because of their behaviour.  When I took their temps and saw that they were high, it was off to the vet we went. I would certainly have him seen and a blood panel done just to be sure. Hope he improves...poor 'lil guy.

The easiest is to use such an modern ear termometer.  OR in the armpit of the foreleg.

The temp there is not as exact as in the behind, but OK enough.

Remember the temp there is lower than in the behind, about 3 degrees F lower, or 1 full degree Celsius.

Although here, when we think he is overwarm, we wont be helped much if he has a raised temp.  We "know" he has raised temp...

Otherwise it is a good advice, and one of the first things the vet may ask if you phone vet for advice.

UPDATE: After my last post, I went into the kitchen to see what I could find and I didn't see Hiro anywhere. Turns out he was sleeping behind the tv and behind/underneath the window curtain[emoji]128563[/emoji][emoji]128549[/emoji] so I scooped him up and I gave him a good few drops of syrup from a can if peaches I had [emoji]128584[/emoji] and then proceeded to give him water the same way (droplets, corner of the mouth - though I did manage to get a good number of drops directly in his mouth- with a straw. our kitties drink the same drinking water we do, NOT from the TAP..). He swallowed everything I gave him but he wouldn't eat [emoji]128532[/emoji] I put some canned tuna in his food but all he did was sniff at it. So I just held him and kept giving him drops of water. He's awake now! He walks around and watches our girl cat walk around or he will try to follow me BUT he is still very sluggish and he looks like he is fighting to stay awake.. Idk whether to feel hopeful or.. [emoji]128532[/emoji] I'm afraid because I won't be able to take him in to see anyone until Tuesday! *Fingers Crossed* I'm praying my little trooper pulled through the holiday weekend! [emoji]128533[/emoji]
Thank you to everyone who responded! You guys are too awesome!! I will keep you all updated once something changes.. Happy Memorial Day weekend! [emoji]133674693112[/emoji]

I have been giving Hiro syrup and water drops via straw every couple of hours since yesterday. For the later half of the day yesterday, whenever i would set him down, he would go and hide underneath our tv stand [emoji]128542[/emoji] i would try to sit him in front if his food bowl and to no avail. Sometime late last night though i wrapped/secured him in a towel (which he was very irritated by lol) so he wouldnt fuss and i broke up some pieces of his food and fed them to him. He ate! Or so i thought [emoji]128530[/emoji] he was chewing.. A seallow and lick in between.. But after a couple of pieces, he would just push the food out with his tongue [emoji]128547[/emoji] i was crushed!:,( however when i let him go, he jumped off my bed and walked slooowly but straight to his water and drank! He has been drinking in his own since last night. He just got up to take a drink a few minutes ago and he was lapping it up! Now hes just laying on the bed, staring iff into space.. Sssooo still stationary for the most part, he will fall asleep but hes also awake a lot! Just... SPACEY.. And his pupils are dilated- a little, then a lot, then back again over time, like hes focusing in and out but doing it ever so sloooowly! [emoji]128563[/emoji][emoji]128528[/emoji][emoji]128563[/emoji][emoji]128528[/emoji]... Idk.. He was walking around this morning too! He will walk a few steps, then sit, and STAAAARE... Look around, take a few steps, lay down... I dont know what to make of it! Its sunday, almost everythings closed, and tomorrow is a holiday! [emoji]128542[/emoji] I plan on calling to see if anyone is open but i just hope that even if they are and most especially if they arent, that Hiro can hold on and that whatever is ailing him doesnt progress into something irreversible by the time we are able to take him in!:,((

Not sure it would work, but my cat will always eat chicken baby food. It is Gerber Chicken and Gravy. She will do anything for it. Maybe you can pick some up and syringe feed it to him if he isn't eating.
