Hi Everyone!!

Brand new to this site and hoping to get some idea on what to expect when my kitty Sabrina gives birth. Let me start off with a little background. I have 2 cats, both female, Chaos and Sabrina. 2 weeks before Sabrina had a vet appointment to be fixed she got out and low and behold got herself a boyfriend. I know she is getting close. She has always been a snuggle bug up until about the last 2 weeks, she is now very territorial. Swats and hisses at everyone but me. (i know it's more then likely due to the pregnancy) She hasn't hopped on my lap for 2 weeks. As of yesterday she won't leave my lap. She really hasn't started nesting (well, as far as i know) I have my husband and our room mate on kitty watch. I would think she would have by now. I have never had a pregnant cat before, so i really don't know what to expect. I can search and search online, but i would rather get other peoples thoughts and experiences. Should i have anything on hand, just in case? I know she is going to have the kittens where she decides, but i have about 4 "nests" around the house. I just wish there was a way to make my love a little more comfortable :(

My other thought is my other cat (Chaos - female - fixed). She is very passive and minds her own business. Chaos and Sabrina get along VERY well. do i need to do anything with Chaos once Sabrina has the kittens? I guess i'm just an overprotective mommy of my fur babies.

It's great to be part of this community, and i look forward to chatting with you all!

I have added some pics of my sweeties

They often choose the nest at the very last moment, or even - after the delivery.  In the nature, they dont want to get their nest to be smelly too early...   And yes, I agree her defensive attitude is surely because of the being high preg.

Re your other cat.   Obey the mom.  If the mom allows her friend into the nest, and she wants, its OK.

If there are any problems - keep the separated.

She will be the aunt and play camerade later on instead.

Some links who our collegue Red Top Resuce had gathered:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links in here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

Sabrina is going to pop any time. All day today she will be totally fine then start darting around the house having diarrhea EVERY WHERE. We have never had a problem with her going in the litter box. But all day today..its been places like the dresser...behind the toilet and even under the bed. She's been having contractions for the past 3 hours now. Its starting to scare me the way she is darting around...HELP. :please:

She is apparently herself nervous by this diarrhea. Being herself a scrupulously clean girl.    Diarrhea is quite common shortly before the delivery, so its soon now...

And her "bad manners" are of course because of the diarrhea, she cant help it.

Try to be calm yourself, and be the positive, calming example for her!

Continue to report and ask!

Good luck!

My kitty Sabrina is due any day, and i know her bowels aren't agreeing with her. I woke up 2 mornings ago and there was poop from one side of the house to another. It happened about 4 times this weekend. yesterday i came home and the poop was splattered half way up the wall (graphic i know) we locked her in our half bath, as much as i hate to do it, i don't see another way. We have a big nest in there, her food (Purenia indoor formula) which she has been on since she we got her 2 years ago her litter box, and there's a nice big window. I just went in there and again diarrhea EVERYWHERE. I am going to get her some kitten food right after i post this to see if that helps. I feel so bad for her. It's like when it comes on, she freaks out and starts running everywhere. I just don't know what to do. Any advice? This is my first time going through a cat's pregnancy. Has anyone else been through something like this?

Hi Yennalin.

I've sent a PM to someone who can give you some advice about this.

Hold on.

Hope she's going to be OK.

With it getting everywhere it means it's coming out of her gassy intestines.

This is mostly caused by food, or quick change in diet.

Has your cat had normal poop before this happened?

Okay so if that's the case I would most definitely recommend she see a vet as soon as possible, before the kittens are born too.

This is strange, and makes me think she may have gotten into something, or ......well it could be so many things.

But diarrhea like that will dehydrate quite a bit, it doesn't matter that she is eating and drinking fine, because she now has alot of excess water coming back out rather than in her system.

I don't think holding off is a good idea here, not when she is ready to deliver at any time now.

I wish I had the answer, but it is not okay for sudden and dramatic amts of diarrhea if nothing has changed at all lately.

I'm not one to rush to the vet much either, I have a rescue so I am used to handling my medical issues myself mostly, but in her case, yes, she does need to see the vet asap.

Let us know!

I've got a soft spot for ginger cats too.

At the moment I've got calico, tortoiseshell, tabby, black and white, lynx point, grey and solid black so all I need is a ginger one to make up the full set.

Mama Cat looks very happy there.

Have you found homes for any of the others yet?

Going on week 2 with the kittens!! Everyone is still doing wonderful. A couple of them are beginning to show their personality. Echo (the ginger were keeping) is going to be a snuggler like mommy! all but 2 have their eyes completely open and are all moving around (not very gracefully mind you) like crazy!!!!
