My 4 month old kitten has been on antibiotics for the last 5 days and I noticed her straining today whilst trying to poop. I read that while it's not good to give cats milk, milk can actually help with feline constipation. Is this true? Anyone have any other natural remedies I can try?

Many thanks in advance!

Constipation is a known side-effect of some antibiotics, and often rights itself naturally. I would not give her milk, that could complicate matters if she is lactose intolerant.

First, feed her only wet food and add more water to it, so it a real soupy texture. And make sure she drinks plenty of water as well - if necessary give her extra via a needless syringe or dropper. If that does not work, you could add a few drops of olive or vegetable oil to the food. Talk to the vet who prescribed the antibiotics - he may want to prescribe Miralax or some other medicament, but I think that probably the problem will sort itself out.
