Hi I've just bought a kitten a week ago and I'm trying to find a good schedule for feeding her. Right now i'm feeding her a mix of wet (she's not too into her wet) and dry before and after work and then just dry before bed. Is this ok? Also does any have any tips on getting her to eat more wet she does eat some but is more into her dry.

Thanks

How old is your kitten? If she younger than 6 months? If so, she probably needs more meals throughout the day. Kittens should be allowed to eat as much and as often as they would like.

If she is six months or older, you should figure out a schedule that works for both of you. I feed before work, after work and before I go to bed (9 am, 7 pm, 11 pm). My cats seem to be starving on only two meals a day, but other are fine.

She's only 10 weeks at the moment I am free feeding her but she doesn't seem to be eating that much. I am hoping that its just because she is still settling in to a new home. Her appetite has increased a little over the last couple days.

I don't have experience with kittens this young, so hopefully some more experienced members will chime in.

I have a very picky eater, but with her it's all about the food. If she doesn't like something, she will starve herself. Maybe you could try a different food, although her age is perfect to teach her to eat all types of food - I mean they are more willing to try new things now, when they are young.

when I hace kittens that is 4 mos old or younger i feed them wet 4-5 times a day what ever they want to eat then thats when i start a schedua on feeding when they are 4 mos and older

I am from New Zealand so the choices on what to feed her are a bit more limited. I'm feeding her Iams both for wet and dry as that's what she was eating when I bought her but I'm going back to store today and will see if I can hopefully find her something better. I would like to have her just on wet as well but she doesn't really like it that's why I'm mixing it into the dry to hopefully get her used to the texture.

Try feeding meal times and offer wet during the mornings and dry at night if you're going to do both. This was the key to getting my boy Oliver (Free fed dry for 5 years prior to me adopting him) to eat wet food, hopefully it would work for you! I normally feed all wet food these days (My kitten gets some raw too, Oliver won't touch raw) but recently added in a kibble meal again. So my cats are 5 years and 4.5 months, I feed morning and night. 3oz wet in the morning and 1/4 cup dry at night...Per cat of course. It works out well for my boys. If you can manage 3-4 meals that would be best for such a young kitten! Either 2 wet meals morning and afternoon with dry at night. 3 wet meals in the earlier parts of the day and dry before bed. OR 2 wet meals in the early morning/early afternoon and 2 dry meals in the late afternoon/before bed.

Just suggestions of course through my own experience getting a cat to eat wet. :)

Oh and Oliver also is partial to pate! You may want to try different varieties such as pate, chunked, sliced or shredded, ect. Try different brands too to keep things interesting and prevent her getting hooked on one food in case of future recalls or anything. I currently have 14 varieties/flavors of canned between 6 different brands for my boys. They seem to really enjoy not know what the flavor of the day will be!
