Good afternoon,

My apologies for my lateness in getting the QOTD today. I've been ill and just now dragged my body out of bed. And as soon as I'm done here, I'm going back to bed. It's a summer cold and I think summer colds are the worst. Rick has it, too, and he's doing about as well as I am....meaning he feels rotten, too.

Question for today deals with our cats: How many cats do you have in your house? What is the most number of cats you've had in your house? If your kitty is a single-child, why do you have one cat?

We have six cats right now. We've had as many as eight and both Rick and I feel that six is a good number for us. We had eight for about a year and it wasn't pleasant for us. I actually felt a little stressed with eight cats in the house. Don't get me wrong; I love these kids and I'll do everything I can to care for them. But six seems to work best for us. How about you?

I am a one cat household.   I used to have two and in their pensioner years one bullied the other quite badly so I thought it better to have one after they both crossed the bridge.

I would probably have caved in when I went along to meet Mouse if I am honest, but he was an only kitten and no siblings to tempt me.  As he has never had other cats to interact with other than his mom he has always been happy to interact and play with the people around him and appears very happy as the master of his territory here.  He's now three and in discussions with my vet recently they felt it would be unlikely Mouse would take kindly to any other cat coming in to his life at this point.  I would love more if I could afford them and had more space in my home, but that is all a wild dream I fear.

I have two kittens which is also the most I have had.  I got them as kittens though not from the same litter.  Since they were kittens there were no introduction issues and they are now growing old together.

We have two. My boyfriend had one for a long time, but moved into his parents' for a short stint where they had another cat they inherited before my boyfriend moved away, though that inherited cat has since passed away. He didn't get any more because his roommate for several years didn't like cats, and one was bad enough. We wanted a second one for company, and to be "mine". She's great company for me, but not so much for the first cat. This is my first time living with cats at all.

We got Maia when she was 8 weeks old and Foley 4 months after that when he was 5 months old. They had their issues at first but after the territory was settled they got along just fine. He's the king of the house and of course she's the queen. She loves to lick him and he likes to chase her around. We're good with two cats because of space, budget and honestly i doubt they would let another kitty to come to their kingdom.

I have 3 cats. Two are brother and sister (Mason and Julie), and we just don't tell Gadget that he isn't related.  I adopted 3 cats at once, but ended up exchanging the 4 month old for Mason.  The 4 month old was just too much energy, and in the end it worked out since Mason had incredibly strong urine (intact male, 8 months) and was being passed up for adoption whereas the 4 month old kitten was adopted within 24 hours of me returning her.  Before I got him, Gadget was a return.  He was owned by some girl who broke up with her boyfriend and left the cat.  He has some behavioral issues but they're much better now (bites when petted).  This is the most I've owned at one time on my own.  Thankfully they get along really well, considering I performed the worst introduction ever:  I literally showed each cat the litter boxes and water but through them all together at once.  Mason and Julie had been separated for months and didn't seem to recognize each other.  Gadget and Mason did quite a bit of cat-swearing at one another but after 1 night they decided they were "brothers from another mother."

I feel you on the cold, I have one too now.

One cat. First time caring for a cat, and living with a roommate who doesn't care for cats, I don't have the space to do introductions, or another litter box, despite our apartment being big enough for either. My cat got free roam with other cats at the shelter, so I think he'd be fine with another cat, but he's still a skittish cat, and I'd like him to trust me more first before I bring another in (after my roommate moves out, we'll see) and potentially upset his world.

Odd thing is, despite being a scaredy cat, routine changes doesn't bother him at all.

I have just the one kitty and he's the only one I've ever had. I can only afford one, so I sought out a rescue that needed to be away from other animals. I got him from a rescue group that normally requires kittens 6 months and younger to either be adopted with another young cat or into a household that already has at least one cat, preferably two years old or younger. Anyway, Oliver was 5 months when I adopted him and they said he'd be best in a home without pets because he'd been bullied by aggressive animals both while feral and in his foster home.

I'm hoping to be able to add another kitty at some point. The runt of a litter, perhaps. But I don't know. If I have company, he runs under my bed and stays there until they leave. If I open a window, he runs up stairs and stays there until I close it. I want him to have company when I've got a full-time job and spend my days at work, but I don't know if he'll be able to deal with another animal in our home.

I have two cats inside and one outside. I've tried to bring the outside cat in but it was unsuccessful. I did have three cats inside. I would dearly love another cat inside. I think about it every day. I'm sure I will cave in and bring one home at some stage.

We have 2 at the moment.  The most i have had at once is 3.  I used to think I'd like 6 cats an 2 dogs.  Now I'm completely content with 2 cats.  I miss having a dog sometimes; but it's not time for us to get one.  My husband is allergic to cats; so really 2 is best for him as well.  He reacts to some dogs (or maybe the allergens they carry inside from going out) too so he isn't anxious to get one.
