Hi all, I'm new here and I just got a little kitten yesterday who looks to be part Russian Blue. She's almost two and a half pounds and is eight weeks old but was from the Humane Society so she's already been spayed. She'll be strictly indoors, too.  I'll be feeding her almost entirely on canned food (four meals a day) with an eighth of a cup of dry food sitting out during the day and at night. I'd like to supplement her diet with raw, too, but am unsure of how I can do that without causing stomach upset since she eats so much more frequently than a dog does. So far I have these foods on my list that I need to decide from and why they're unique or why I like them, although any other suggestions would be great! I'm really stuck on which dry food I should feed her and probably should figure out fairly soon so I can go buy her a bag before she runs out of samples lol!

All are grain free:

FirstMate - European standard food, low ash (6%)
Instinct - Freeze dried raw coating, added probiotics

Lotus - Baked food, low ash (6.5%)

PureVita - Added pre and probiotics
Wellness Core - High protein content
ZiwiPeak - Air dried, raw equivalent, very simple list of ingredients

Any help I could get as far as choosing one of these would be much appreciated! Which would you choose and why? Thank you!!

A couple pictures of Rogue!

Omg she's so cute!!!! Congrats! :)

I rotate foods personally. Brands and flavors. I have 14 flavors of canned between like 6 brands in my cabinet at the moment and since mine don't hardly eat any kibble I just buy small bags and rotate brands/flavors with each new bag. I have one cat who also gets a bit of raw a few times a week. My other cat won't touch raw unfortunately. He was raised on kibble from kitten hood by his previous owner so even switching to canned was a big deal to get him to eat while my other one I've had since 8-10 weeks and started him off right away to variety so he eats anything. Younger cats are much more open to new foods so now is the time to imprint variety on them to create good eating habits. Variety in foods (Regardless what you feed) will ensure variety in nutrition to keep your baby healthy too!

That's my goal, too! How do you incorporate raw when they're young without giving an upset stomach??

With my animals personally, I just give it to them. I don't introduce things slowly or transition, they just eat whatever I give them and never had issues. :dk: (Well, for the most part. Oliver is the only "picky pet" that I've ever had and that is ONLY when it comes to eating raw...Though he surprised me by stealing the bone from a drumstick the other night and giving it a go for at least a couple gnaws! Of course when I directly offer them, he doesn't want them! Crazy cat. Lol)

I'd say just offer small bites of whatever you have on hand. If you don't go "full raw" then I wouldn't bother with things like liver unless it's very very small amounts or already premixed into a commercial brand of raw. If you're just adding some raw to the diet here and there then stick with muscle meats and if she'll accept it, RAW bones. (IE. Chicken necks, feet, backs, wings, ect) My kittens FAVORITE raw food is heart! He goes nuts for them! I mostly offer chicken hearts because they're the easiest and cheapest to find. (Often packaged with gizzards) But any kind he will eat up quite happily! Otherwise I offer a chunk off whatever we have for dinner when I cook. So chicken, turkey, pork, beef, venison, ect. I'd say I eyeball out about 1oz normally though some nights I'll throws like a whole porkchop or a whole drumstick to him instead of giving him his regular canned or dry food. Not an every night thing but I'd say he gets raw a minimum of twice a week. I also give him Instinct Rabbit medallions sometimes which is a "premade" raw food for pets.
