All 5 cats have been to the vet this week. All 5 have an URI infection. I just spent $300 for everything from my Vet. All 5 cat got the Convenia shot and a recommendation to keep them on the "Lysine" regular diet. I have bought the 1 pound size on the internet for cheap. I am worried about other money issues as I am not rich here. My cats are from 8-15 years old. What are your thoughts?

I am not quite certain of your question. Are you referring to a special lysine food or adding lysine powder to their food? Pure lysine is not very expensive. The one pound should last a long time, even for 5 cats.

However, lysine is really only effective against the herpes virus. If herpes is the cause of the URIs in the cats, it may be effective. If herpes is not the cause, then lysine most likely won't help so there's no reason to keep them on it indefinitely.

The antibiotics will most likely clear up the URI soon. Did the vet mention why he wanted to add the lysine diet? If not, I would ask.

My Vet did recommend keeping the 5 cats be on the Lysine diet with both food and water additives .

All 5 cats got the "exam" All 5 cats got the "convenia injection" ....... Cost me about $300.00 that I do not have. I sure hope  that my "fur-children" recover very soon here. Please say a prayer as my cats range from age 8 to age 15 years old

My 5 cats are better even over the last 10 days. My senior "Mr Sockoo" goes back to the vet tomorrow (Thursday) as he is still coughing and sneezing. He is about 15 years old and has not been eating much in the same time of 10 days. Any more ideas? Thanks! I think he has asthma on top of the URI.
