Hi,

my cat doesnt eat very well in the last three weeks and for the past three days she didnt eat anything. She pukes often and in the beginning of the illness she got diarrhea but now only sticky, black excrements.

I visted a vet four times. Today they made a ultrasonography analysis and the vet told me that gut is too thick. She told me that it could be cancer or maybe some sort of infection that couldnt be cured also.

I uploaded the ultrasonography picture that shows the picture of the cancer (or something similar) so you can post your opinion here.

I also upload the xray picture maybe you see something the vet didnt see.

Hi @veni

And I'm sorry you are going through this with your cat.  We are not vets so I doubt many people will be able to read these tests, but I'm still very sorry.  How old is your cat?  Did you vet recommend that she be put to sleep?  If there is no treatment and she is feeling badly, this may be the most humane thing to do.

Would you like to post a picture of her for us to see how beautiful she is?

Hi veni ! Welcome to TCS !

veni , Question 1: Did the Vet recommend/suggest any kind of treatment....were you given any options on what could be done ?

When we see sticky black stool, we know that it usually comes from intestinal bleeding.

Intestinal bleeding might be the result of cancer. It might be the result of damage to the intestine, perhaps caused by something the cat ate.

Question 2:  Is there a "cat specialist" Veterinarian in your area (a Veterinarian who treats only cats) ? That's where I would be taking her.

Your cat will certainly die.......IF she is not properly treated....AND ALSO IF SHE DOES NOT EAT.

Look here: cats can NOT go without eating for even short periods of time, like a few days. You and I can do that........you or I could survive on a desert island without food for a long time, because human bodies are able to use body fats for sustenance......by the time we are rescued, we are very thin, BUT we survived. NO SO FOR CATS !

Cats are UNIQUE in that aspect....their livers cannot metabolize body fat for energy, because their livers have not evolved with the necessary enzymes for that....so, what happens is that their livers just absorb the fat, become fatty themselves and stop working. An outward sign of that is jaundice....skin/flesh becomes yellowish as do the eyes. This is called 'fatty liver disease'.......and that, by itself, can kill a cat.

SO.....something has to be done by a Veterinarian who knows what s/he is doing.....someone competent.....and, it must be done quickly.

The options/choices I see are
  • testing tissue from the dark area of the intestine (using a needle to draw the sample) - ONLY if the results can be obtained quickly - followed by appropriate treatment, including nutrition
  • exploratory surgery to identify/determine/rectify the apparent intestinal problem with nutritional support following
  • humanely euthanize the cat
BUT.........sitting around and waiting for online responses......that's NOT AN OPTION.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. My ct recently had cancer and it showed in a thickened stomach lining. It was large cell lymphoma roam

Have the tested cells? There is treatment available depending

Wishes your kitty the best

Vet would give her a deadly injection when the cat doesn't feel comfortable any more. The cat really hate it to go the vet so i don't want to ruin her last hours.
I justed hoped that someone maybe see something different. If anybody could recommend me a message board where vets hang out i would appreciate that.

lf you're feeling uncomfortable with the diagnosis, maybe you could take the scans to a second vet for a second opinion. You'd be charged for the opinion, but not the huge fee of having the rads and the ultrasound done over again.

Sending many vibes for you and your kitty

The vet will not euthanize him/her without your consent. You probably have to sign a consent form, they don't make the call, you do.

Also, you need to find out what's wrong with your cat. An X-ray does not necessarily show anything. An ultrasound would be better and a biopsy of cells. What about bloodwork?

The cat is at home. You can see the ultrasound in the first thread. The blood test says that protein is far too low.

I have to wait till tomorow morning to show the ultrasonic pictures to another vet.

Here is a photo of the cat:

I agree with Andrya that a second opinion is a very good idea. It will help give you confidence for your decisions. Beautiful cat!!!

The only place I know where you can have the tests reviewed in the USA is the cornell vet school where they can do it over the phone and by email. Let me know if you want more info in this.

I brought the cat to another vet today and she got an operation. The vet removed three tumors. Two in the guts and one very big on a lymph node. Hopefully she will life for some week/month now.

It sounds like Lymphoma to me, but we have to wait from the lab report.

Oh, wow! I hope this buys your girl some time. I'm so sorry you're both going through this.
