Very sad story but what an inspiring couple looking out for their feline friends. Konishi is right that things like this show you the darker sides of human beings. Is there no way they might spay and neuter them to help prevent disease and overpopulation?

I thankfully do not understand the other people who would poison or harm these cats. Mental problems, I suppose? Cats are already struggling for a place in the world after being failed by the people who should have loved them like family.

Completely agree with every word Konishi says in this article. Pet stores and mills are a sickening trade.  I don't get why some people loathe cats so much though. Feral or domestic, they are entitled to live in peace.

Truth be told, such evil people are utterly worthless. They deserve the same treatment tenfold.

Such a sad story! But how wonderful that the cats have some friends to protect them.

I used to live in a big city in the centre of Japan and there was a "blue tent" city of homeless people living in the park there. All the homeless guys used to feed the cats and let them sleep in their shelters with them. It was touching to see how the people and animals that society had cast aside came together.

TNR is still not very well known in Japan, but there are a few groups that are doing this. There is a wonderful guy from Kobe who runs a TNR project there and also in Fukushima, the area that was abandoned after the nuclear power plant went into melt down. He gets local vets to volunteer to spay and neuter and has a whole army of cat ladies who help him with the trap and release part. So things are changing. Very slowly, but they are changing.
