Where would you like to retire someday?  Is it where you are now, something you are working toward or just a fantasy?

DH and I talk about retiring to a cabin in the mountains.  Peace, quiet, privacy and great views!  Sounds nice to me!  Although that may not be the best for gardening!  And I bed I'd miss the ocean sounds!  We joke that if we ever get really wealthy we'll spend our summers in the mountains of Upstate New York, winter in some southern mountain cabin and spring and fall on the shore. Maybe near the Outer Banks.  Not during tourist season; but still when it's nice enough to enjoy the great outdoors!
I'm not sure if we will ever really move toward any of those plans.  It seems so far off still.  DH would like to go closer to the area he is originally from though.  He says that often!

Belize. I'm very serious. I have had it up to "here" with cold, snow and ice. Up to "here" I tell you. It's probably just a fantasy because I don't see dear Richard moving anywhere (unless it's to the Pacific northwest). And I refuse to move any further north than we already are.

Belize. The day after I retire. And I may be moving there by myself. With the cats.

The lifestyles that appeal to me most seem to be in COLD countries! l like everything about Canada, except the winter. l'd love to live in any of the Scandinavian countries (l'm including Finland). Switzerland sounds good too. Of course l'd have to have a winter house somewhere hot, like Belize
 (it does sound wonderful).

The upside of having a cold winter is not having to live among mammoth spiders! And yes, l'm being serious. lf l imagine l won the lottery and can move anywhere, the spiders are a huge consideration! But that's just a fantasy, l'll likely retire here.

Too far away to even think about, not only because I'm young but also because I'm poor! Also single. Retiring now to my bedroom to cry...

Just kidding about that last part.

oh Canada~
I have a friend, and we're both artists (she's in comic books, I'm in 3D) and we always joke that when we make it big and get rich, she's going to buy an old, but nice house out in the back woods of Japan - think the Totoro house - and I would go sleep on her couch. She can work on comics in peace and in nature, and since there won't be electricity, I can watch her draw and frolic outside. I wouldn't mind going to some hot springs there either!

But in reality, I haven't really decided. I have quite a few years to figure it out, but one thing I know I want to do, whether it's for retirement or vacation, is to take a big trip to Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea to see both the big cities and the rural areas. My grandpa left my dad an old house in rural southern China, so maybe someday we'll fly back, tear it down, and rebuild a modest little summer home or something on the property. ;)

I really like where I live, I moved here for that reason.  If I wasn't here I'd move to FL.  If I were to move out of the country, It would be Galapagos Islands.  I absolutely love the weather and no bugs (a few polinating bees).
