My cat just gave birth, but her nipples never filled up with milk it seems.  They can't be felt when you rub her belly, they just look like normal non-pregnant cat nipples.   During birth she only squeezed them out.  Another female cleaned them off, broke the sacs & ate the placentas.   She didn't even really clean herself up all that well.   The other mom is feeding them (there is 4) but is also feeding her 4 also.   They are only 4 days apart in age. Also the actually mom keeps leaving the kittens to be with us.   She just turned 1yr this month and this is her 1st litter.   Hoping to get the mom (Kiya) into the vet tomorrow to see what is wrong.  Any thoughts?

Just like with people, some are born to be moms and some are not that keen on it.  Since she is leaving her babies to be with you, it might help if you sat with her and the babies at the mutual nest she is sharing with the other female who is an enthusiastic mama.  While the other mama cat will soon produce enough milk for 8 newborns in response to having that many nursing, the true newborns will not get the colostrum, the FIRST fluid, which contain a lot of the antibodies they need.  If you could get her to lie still by sitting with her and encourage the newborns to try nursing on her (now that they have learned on the other mom), that should stimulate her to produce colostrum and milk.  We have seen this happen with spayed cats when kittens nursed on them.  However, some cats are not great moms, so you are lucky to have a foster mom to care for the babies.  Ask the vet to check and see if she does, in fact, have a little colostrum in her or if she really is producing nothing at all.

Took Kiya to the vet today and she is producing a little milk.  Probably would've had more if she had ate the placentas.  But they gave her a shot & we have been rotating the babies between the two moms.   There has been a little weight gain for a few, not the 10 grams that I wish for, 1 lost weight and a couple had some big jumps.  Hopefully the shot and rotating will help everyone out in the long run.    Kiya does bathe & poop the babies.

Sounds good!  The shot was probably oxytocine, a hormone helping her to produce milk.  Look up with the one who lost weigh.  Help it extra to get quality time including nursing, with one of the moms.  If necessary, be prepared for supplementing / actively warming up.

As your extra mom in this moment has the main milk  charge for 8 kittens, be sure she has first rate nourishing food.  Consider even some extra calcium, definitely so  later on, when the kittens are bigger and gets much milk, but perhaps even already now.

Good luck!

It sounds like you are doing everything just right, rotating the kittens between the two moms and weighing them to watch for weight gain.  So glad you took her to the vet right away as the shot will help her move into mommy mode better.  As @StefanZadvised, be sure to look after the littlest ones carefully, give them extra nursing time, perhaps put them on the full mother FIRST before letting the larger babies get their share, and supplement them if you have to.  You are a superb cat guardian!

Thanks everybody for the great advice & letting me know I was on the right track.  I only knew about the shot from being on here!  When I called the vet to suggest it, they had no clue what I was talking about!!

The weights are getting better, still no 10grams everyday for everybody, but Kiya is doing a lot better with the whole mommy thing!  The moms are eating Wellness, Blue, Simply Nourish and dry food is Royal Canin Mama & baby cat.   We do weights at bedtime so we shall see later how things went today!
