Striker is a 14 y.o. neutered male, indoor-only DSH, orange/cream tabby (see profile pic).  He has been with us since he was adopted as a kitten.

This morning, Mrs. notice a small, dark spot under his fur on the bottom/back of his right, rear leg (approximately below the ankle).  Similar to a mole or birthmark, approximately .

It does not appear to be a scab, and does not seem painful to him.  It is not raised or bumpy.

Any thoughts?

We are in a new area, and have not yet found a vet.

Your cat is 14 years old.  This is most likely an age spot that both of you have missed until now.   Keep an eye on it for any changes, and as soon as you settle on a new vet, have it looked at.

Off to the new vet tomorrow.  We shall see what they think.

On the suggestion of age spots - I had not heard about that.  I did a little bit of internet research and it seems like most occur around the face.  Nothing said it couldn't happen on the back leg, but no obvious references.

It will be good to get established either way, though.

New vet - FAIL.

I was not present for the visit, but Mrs. was absolutely disgusted with the place and the lack of conclusions/answers.  She indicated the vet herself was personable, but seemed to answer most inquiries with, "I don't know," or "I've never seen anything like that spot.  I'm not sure what to do."  She wanted to sedate him to clean his teeth, among other things that were readily dismissed by Mrs.' awareness of Striker's most recent medical history and lack of need for such tests.

Ah, well...

I am so sorry things didn't work out with the new vet.  I know it can be difficult to find a good vet.
