I know the Instinct line from Nature's Variety can be fed to cats but does the same apply to Prairie? I'm speaking of canned food, in this case the "Home style" variety. I got 27, 13oz cans for *70 CENTS* yesterday! *happy dance* Most is the Instinct "95%" food but I grabbed what they had left of the Prairie too, to ask about using it for the cats. If not I can try them on my raw dog or else just give them away to someone else. I'd still come out well off seeing as the cans normally cost $3-$4 a piece and my main purchase was the kind I know they can have! But my wallet would be quite excited if the cats CAN have it.

Wow. That's quite a deal.

In looking at the ingredients for the Prairie, I see that it contains taurine, so, conceivably you could feed this food to your cats. However, this food contains one item difference from the Instinct Grain-free, which is brown rice. Some brown rice is okay when there is sufficient taurine in commercial cat food. But there may be too much brown rice with too little taurine in this dog food, and there doesn't seem to be any information about the taurine amount. You could try a bit on rotation but I wouldn't feed this food exclusively. Hope this helps.

Here is an article at Little Big Cat on Brown Rice : http://www.littlebigcat.com/nutrition/rice-bran-no-good-for-cats/

I got the 'Pork & Sweet Potato Stew'. No brown rice, though it does have oats as the 12th ingredient. It does contain an assortment of fruits and veggies though which aren't good but I have 13 brands and flavors in my cabinet ATM, most of which are grain/fruit/veggie free and low carb. So not to be fed exclusively! Since it DOES contain taurine I was hoping it would be ok to use in rotation. With a wedding coming up July 5th, we're trying to keep everything cheap as possible. You can't even get Friskies for as cheap as I got the Prairie/Instinct! :O

Also wanted to say thanks for the link! Just read it and wow! I had no idea. I try to keep my pets food heavy on meat and very light on everything else but that was still very informative.

Oh, okay then. Great. You should be fine with this on rotation. :)
