Hi Everyone,

Three days ago my cat seemed to have pain and stiffness in her back legs. She had trouble moving around. I took her to the vet assuming she had arthritis. (she is 16 years old) It turned out she was very constipated. She had an enema and they manually removed some extra poop as well. While she was there they did blood work, xrays and urine tests. They discovered she had a mass in her rectum that was quite large and was probably causing her pain so she was avoiding the litterbox. Although she does have an onset of arthritis the vet felt that her movement was a problem because of the pain of the mass. They don't feel that the mass is a hemmoroid, blocked anal gland or malignant. The other bad news was that she has a mass in one of her lungs. Surprisingly the vet did not seem to worried about it as she has no respitory distress and told me for all we know it may have been there for years. The good news we got was that her bloodwork and urine came back looking very good for cat her age. No sign of diabetes, liver or kidney damage and her thyroid was okay.

Here is my concern. Since bringing her home she still seems to be in pain. Does not want to get out of her bed and does not want to move around. She likes me to pet her and I pick her up and cuddle her and she likes that. She is eating some wet food. I have not seen her drink any water yet. I also think she has only peed once maybe twice since in three days. She is on pain medication which I was told will make her groggy. I spoke to the vet today who told me to keep an eye on her for a couple more days and then check in again. She also gave me an anti inflamitory to see if that helps her pain.

I am trying to think logically. My cat seems depressed. I am thinking that the enema itself and the manual extraction may have caused her pain so she may be extra tender? She is an old cat who fortunetly has been in very good health so I had hoped by now she would be moving around a bit and I am concerned about her not going to the bathroom enough.

If the vet does not seem so worried should I try and relax a bit?

very sorry to hear all that... I would consult another vet for a second opinion.

(personally, I've tried four vets here in town before settling on one. Surprisingly, there are plenty of them around, and many give a discount for first-client consultations).
