My 6 year old declawed and spayed indoor female baby-bear has been missing for 5-7 days now. I went out of town to visit my family for Mother's Day weekend on Saturday the 10th and came home to find her nowhere to be found on Tuesday the 13th. Today is Friday the 16th. My careless negligent soon to be ex-roommate allowed this to happen and tried to lie her way out of responsibility, so I have no way of knowing what day she went out. My local Humane Society and county shelter has been notified as well as every vet office in town. I have also taped 200 fliers to doors in the neighborhood of apartments that we live in. She is also still being shared all over Facebook. There is a tree line followed by a large grassy field behind my building that I have searched over. I have also searched every patio (Lydia loves to wiggle in places to hide). I would like to set a humane trap, but there are so many stray cats around here (2 that I actively feed and house on my patio) that I feel this is a fruitless option. I would just be catching and releasing the same cats over and over.

Is there anything I'm missing? Her brother (a 13 yr old male) and I miss her terribly. He's been incredibly clingy to me and doing that deep chortle he does when he's puzzled by something.

If she is an indoor-only cat she probably hasn't gone far. She's probably hiding somewhere close by, only coming out at night. Could you try leaving some of her favourite food out with a movie camera hidden nearby to film who shows up?

There are some other good tips on these links;

How about a pet detective? I'd get your room mate to foot the bill for one if I were you.

Good luck, I hope you find her.

Tuesday night I put my 13 yr old in my room upstairs, turned off all lights, and just left the back door to the patio wide open from 9-12 to no avail. If I put food out the other cats eat it. I don't have any sort of recording device aside from my phone. My roommate is a real piece of work. When I told her Wednesday afternoon that I was putting in my 30 day notice to the landlady and that she either needed to find someone to take my place or prepare to move she began yelling at me as I walked out the door to make more fliers. Needless to say, she has been no help.

Yeah, she sounds a real nightmare......

Your cat is probably to scared to move from her hiding place, even if she can see and hear you. I'd start by searching every nook and cranny close to your house and then gradually making a wider circle. Take a torch to shine into any tiny spaces, you'll be able to see her eyes shinning back at you. Scared cats hide in the craziest places, up trees, down drains in covered wood piles etc.

I found I got a lot of response if I made posters that said;

REWARD.

For any information

leading to the recovery of.....

You don't have to say how much the reward is, it's just a way of grabbing people's attention.

9pm-midnight is not night to a cat...you need to be looking for her from 2am until the sun comes up (with your son if she will come to him).

That's a good idea!

Will her brother walk on a harness and leash? Take him for a walk around the neighbourhood sometime between midnight and dawn, he might be able to smell where she is hiding.

Carrot does not go out on a leash but is very comfortable going outside. We just did a brilliant photo series of him in off the wall places one generally doesn't find a cat to be. That was my plan for tomorrow morning. He and I leave through the patio door and I will just follow him wherever he goes. I'm not comfortable doing this with him at night, so morning is what I've got to work with.

maybe you can just go outside on your patio (for safety's sake) and call for her every hour or two or three

how did she get out and not your other cat? does your building have security cameras that may have caught something?

I'm so sorry about your missing cat. Yeah, good ridess to the roommate.
Every one has offered good suggestions. I would only add to put on your porch/balcony/patio a litter box with some of Carrot's urine/feces. The stray cats may not be attracted to it, but maybe your cat will be.
