My fiance and I just moved in together. He has lived in a house with cats his whole life. But

my mother is not a cat person even though I have always BEGGED her for me to have a cat. Welp, I'm grown up and moved out so I was finally able to welcome a cat into my life! My coworkers cat had kittens and I got an 8 week old tortie (female obviously) and named her Yui! Pronounced Yoo-ee. I'm still skeptical about this whole "tortitude" thing, but she sure is spunky!

Do any of you fellow tort owners find your cat to have tortitude?

(also for those of you who are wondering, yes my coworker is getting her cat spayed :D)

Hi brookephus, I'm pretty new around here myself but I just wanted to share in your joy in finally being allowed to live with a kitty. Your Yui is adorable and sure does look like she has tortitude, just say in'.
I really can't speak to the whole tortitude theory or the history of it but vets have referred to my Layla as a "naughty torti" so I'm guessing its a thing. Layla does have a complex personality and problem- solving intelligence. She is also prone to random aggression; if she goes to the vet I have to stay with her the whole time and even with me she can be very bitey. Other more experienced members here might be able to shed light on the tortitude theory. Welcome! :wavey:

Welcome to TCS!  I love your Tortie. I have 3 Torbies (tortoiseshell/tabby pattern). Love that orange (really red in cat breed speak, I think?)!

Aw, so cute!  I don't really know about 'tortitude'--but congratulations on the new baby, she's adorable.  Welcome to TCS!

My first cat was a tortie and looked very much like yours. She would Steal my ham and cheese sandwiches of the counter and for a while I didn't know where she was going with them. But I found the bread and ham under my bed with just the cheese eaten. My Tortie girl had an ability to sense when I was sick. She wouldn't leave my side and once stayed by my side in my bed for 5 days. She must have snuck off to use her litter box and grab a snack but when I was awake she was there. She was also able to predict the birth of all 4 of my children by within 12 hours. She did this by again staying by my side and not letting me out of her sight. By the 4th child We just knew what was happening and we even have a picture of her with her arm wrapped around my enormous belly 8 hours before I went into labor. My sweet kitty died a week after her best buddy our beagle died from cancer. We think she died of a broken heart. I will never forget her and I still feel deep pain inside when I recall memories in detail!! I love Torties. They are my favorite!
