My friends cat just had a litter of kittens about two maybe three weeks ago now. I was wondering how long it should be before I take the one I want home. I've read that it's eight to twelve weeks leaning toward the twelve as much as possible. But I'm anxious to get the little guy home! I've heard it's due to them developing behaviors of a normal cat and learning their animalistic and human interactions and social skills. I'd be bringing the cat into my current home obviously, which consists of a pug, Yorkie, my cat and my grandparents two cats. Which my cat I've had about four years now and she absolutely loves other cats and interacting my grandmas one cat is the same way. The pug doesn't really interact with the cats much, but the Yorkie on the other hand loves to play and keep the cats active. Their other cat is a Persian blue and isn't seen except on rare occasions. So I was wondering if about ten weeks would be an appropriate age to bring it home or not. Gives it a few weeks longer with the mother than the minimum, also it's a bit sooner than suggested though.

I'd wait 12 weeks if you feel you can.  You truly will have a better chance of bringing home a cat that does not have behavioral problems that can't be easily resolved, an a cat that will need less training.  Remember, you and your other household members will have years and years with t his kitten, but this kitten only has this one chance to learn good behaviors from her mom and littermates.

Before bringing her home please consider reading over the following articles, and keep in mid you'll need to supervise introductions VERY carefull as the kitten will be MUCH smaller than your other pets.
