My 3 cats eat dry and canned. Their main portion is canned, but they have dry available 24/7 for snacking. I wasn't paying attention and grabbed the wrong dry food today (same brand my dogs get) and now they won't eat it. It's very similar, just a different style (Now instead of Go). Two of them are walking around the house meowing like they do when they are looking for food. Will they eat it if they get hungry? The bag is $70, so I'd rather not throw it out. They always do fine with food changes - bodily functions wise - so that doesn't worry me. They just won't eat the stuff. The meat content is quite different so maybe that's why.

What they are use to (Go):

Chicken meal, de-boned chicken, de-boned turkey, duck meal, turkey meal, salmon meal, de-boned trout, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), natural fish flavour, peas, potatoes, whole dried egg, potato flour, tapioca, de-boned salmon, de-boned duck, salmon oil, pumpkin, apples, carrots, bananas, blueberries, cranberries, lentil beans, broccoli, spinach, cottage cheese, alfalfa, sweet potatoes....

What I grabbed (Now):

De-boned turkey, potato flour, peas, potatoes, pea fibre, whole dried egg, tomato, canola oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), flaxseed, natural flavour, coconut oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), de-boned salmon, de-boned duck, apples, carrots, pumpkin, bananas, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, papayas, pineapple, grapefruit, lentil beans, broccoli, spinach, cottage cheese....

If you bought it at Petco or PetSmart, you can return it. For dry food, even if it's been opened. Canned, they will take back anything unopened. I have done that many times. I just did it last week. All you need is the receipt and they will give you cash back or put it back on your debit/credit card. Or if you do not have the receipt, they will give you store credit.

My cat will starve before he eats anything he does not like. I have been throwing away $4-$6 worth of canned food everyday for the past week. Today I stopped putting it down for him.  I have heard some cats will eventually eat it, but if you have to keep emptying it and putting it down everyday, it really is a waste. Hopefully you can take it back, if not maybe see if a shelter will take it. Most won't take opened food, but it is worth a shot and better than throwing it all out.

I bought it at a smaller pet store and any food, opened or not. So that sucks. I know the SPCA won't take opened food, I tried before when I had left over food that I knew wouldn't be used before it expired. I guess I'll have to just give it a couple days and see if they eat it. They get wet food too (mostly wet diet) so they won't starve, just might not snack on the dry. Usually they eat a different food (wet or dry) right up, I guess this stuff isn't tasty.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe they will eat it. Do you have any of their old food left? Maybe mix it for a few days. I started giving mine real meat along with his dry. His dry is all he has been eating. I hate it because I am a vegetarian and it kills me not to mention grosses me out (lol) to cook real animal for him, but don't need him starving.

l'm not sure l'd want them to eat it

They've gone from: Meat, Meat, Meat, Meat, Meat, Fish, Fish...   to Meat, Veg, Veg, Veg, Veg, Egg, Veg...

Smart cats, l don't blame them for shrieking at you

Seriously though, if it were me l'd feed the "Oops" bag to the dogs and get the cats their usual food, it reads much better nutritionally.

My thoughts too! The first one (the one you always feed) is more meat content.

Maybe you can turn them into toppings, although that'll take forever to use up. Crush them into powdery form and then sprinkle over their canned. Maybe they'll think it ain't so bad after all, after a few tries.
