I know this is a cat site but my fur baby LILO passed away sometime last night. And I feel terrible.i wish I would have done something. I miss her so much.i keep expecting her bright eyes to greet me anytime I open the door. I didn't think it would be this hard .i just don't know what to do I hate this feeling. I just want her back.my 3 year old son had a special bond with her and it's hurts that he's looking for her.i told him she is in the sky but of course he doesn't quite understand. I just want her back. Her life was too short about to be 5 months old. :bawling2:

I'm really sorry your puppy passed away during the night.  You didn't mention what happened,or what you could have done, or if you even knew the puppy was sick, but 5 1/2 months is very young to die, and it's hard to explain to a 3-year-old child too.  I hope you have a family service for the puppy and plant flowers and make a memorial.  That will be good for you and for your child.

I am so very sorry. I hope you and your son will be okay. It is really hard to lose one of our fur kids and I know it must be extra hard trying to explain to a son who is so young. Hugs.

I'm so very, very sorry you have to go through this, losing a young puppy is tragic and unexpected. Time is the only thing that helps to heal that hole in your heart. Just remember that Lilo would never want you to be so sad, she would want you to rejoice in the love you all three shared and to share your treasured  memories with family and people who understand the loss you are going through. Please know you are not alone in your grief, we'll do what we can to lighten your burden by sharing and understanding your agony. It's a long road to recovery, take one day at a time and try not to dwell on the death but keep your mind busy and on good memories. Lilo, you graced the world and your family with your short time on this earth, you were loved and treasured, RIP dear little one!

Thank you all. I'm not getting much support here at home. One family member said "it's just a dog" that really hurt.its hard going outside and not have her there to greet us. I wonder if this feeling of something missing will ever go away. I absolutely hate the way I feel. I feel like it's my fault. We think she ate something she shouldn't have but not positive it happened so fast. I hope she didn't feel alone when she passed and I pray that she knows how loved she was and still is.

I am sorry for the loss of your puppy  Lilo,  @Icey Bolt.   No matter what the age or the circumstance, it is never easy to accept the death of a pet.

What you are feeling is normal, and you will feel the loss for awhile but you should know that blaming yourself will just make you more miserable and  that sometimes people who haven't felt that type of pain,  say the dumbest things when you are grieving,....thinking that saying it's an animal makes it any less painful.....sure for them it is.....but not for you.....so when you feel stronger tell them...that yeah it was a dog...but it was your dog....and it hurts to have lost her.

Do what @Di and Bob suggested and just take it day by day, and keep busy so you don't focus on Lilo's passing but on the good memories. Take care.

Thank you. I've been trying to super clean and take longer than usual getting groceries. I hate being home right now.

Well I didn't mean avoid being in the places Lilo was, I just meant not to dwell on the sad stuff.  Plus she was happy at home and so were you, before this happened.

You are going to miss her regardless, but in time that pain will slowly fade, and you won't feel it so intensely.

You still will have days when waves of sadness will hit, and if you have any other animals like other cats or birds, fish, they also help get over the loss.  I'll keep you in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about your loss. Losing a pet of any age is tough, but it always seems particularly tragic when they're very young. RIP, Lilo. :rbheart:

She's the darker one . Seeing her photos is so hard. This is the first time I've looked at them since her passing. Almost a day without crying:(

Was she the more serious of the bunch? cause she's not rolling on her back like her sister?

I like the white paws...very nice photo.

No her and all her siblings were energetic. The one on her back is her mommy. They are boxer pit mix so I think the boxer in her made her wild lol.

I'm sorry for your loss. It will take some time to get over the loss of your precious Lilo.
The pain will pass with time.
