Hello everyone. I've been looking online for days and can't find anything that I feel has really helped my issue. About 3 weeks ago we had a loving stray show up at our country home. He was immediately accepted by all of our pets (including our "attack" dog who doesn't tolerate anything with a heartbeat to be near her home). I tried to get the word out that we had a cat show up but no one claimed him and considering how perfectly he fit into our home we were more than happy to keep him

I cannot guarantee that this is the right answer for YOUR cat, but I have one cat with a severe flea allergy and he gets "hot spots" around any flea bite he gets, and they turn red and bumpy like those.  He is treated with Advantage Multi every three weeks which keeps fleas from living on him, but he does like to go out in the totally fenced acre we have and there are a few fleas because I'm sure that other cats, opossums and racoons pass through at night.  He licks until the hair is short and the spots do feel hot.  I have had good luck using a product called BANIXX spray that I get at the feed store  A bottle costs about $10 and lasts a long time it seems to sooth the itch and then the hair grows back.  Have you treated the cat for fleas?  Even if he has been treated, fleas can bite him, they just can't live on him.  Have you treated the garage for fleas?  (Diotomaceous earth works well and is not poisonous).   When you take him to the vet, a cortisone shot would probably be helpful in calming the allergy.

Thanks foryour reply, I'll check and see if his spots are warm to the touch. I do have DE that I was planning on using once the wind dies down here. I havent been to town in awhile so the earliest Ill be able to pick anything up for him will be Wednesday. Since he was a stray and stays outside only I wanted to wait and see if he was going to run off before spending money on him. That probably sounds bad but I have 7 dogs/cats and 6 chickens so I felt my money shouldnt be spent on him unless I felt sure he was staying here. I'll talk to the vet and see about any sprays I could pick up from the farm store, he's been great about that before with our other animals.

Seconding the flea allergy. My old cat Ditto used to get "hot spots" whenever she got fleas, and one of my current cats loses fur around the base of her tail whenever she gets a bite - even if we can't find a flea on her, a dose of Advantage usually clears it up (they only get doses when they have fleas, since they're indoors and I don't care to use those chemicals on them more than necessary).
