Hi, I am new to this site, but read some things yesterday that seemed helpful, so I wanted to see if anyone had some advice for me and my cat, DOC (short for Out Of Control or Double O C). He has always had seasonal allergies, but this year he developed a cough so my mom took him into the vet and he has bronchitis. He also stopped eating, which is SO not like him! The vet gave him a shot and a breathing treatment device. We have been trying the breathing treatment, which he hates and yesterday when we did it he freaked so far out that we thought we might have caused him to have aheartattack or somtheing. We finally got him calmed down, but uneasy about trying that again since he got so stressed out. He will drink water and sometimes lick wet food mixed with tuna juice off our fingers, but that's not a lot. The vet gave us Supplical, which is suppose to help, but he doesn't seem to enjoy it. We got a vaporizer and keeping him inside away from pollen to try and help, but he is still having a tough time breathing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I am so thankful I discovered this site and people who love their cats as much ask do! Thank you in advance.

Is the breathing treatment device similar to an inhaler for humans?   I know asthmatic cats sometimes use those, but am not familiar with those being used for bronchitis

So, is he having a tough time breating because his nose is stuffed up?  That is something different from bronchitis, which is in the lungs, causing the coughing.   Two different things happening, it sounds like,

If he is not eating because his nose is stuffed up, the vaporizer may do some good, as well as putting him in the bathroom with steam from the shower for short periods of time.  Also, so get him to eat, try feeding the stinkiest canned food you can find, then warming it up slightly.  Fishy flavors usually work best for this
.   There's actually a thread here on the stinkiest cat food around.  Here it is:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/274197/what-is-the-stinkiest-wet-food-you-know-of

Good luck with your boy

First, thank you for the response!  The breathing treatment is like an inhaler for people, it is called AeroKat.  He seems to have a tiny bit of stuffed up nose, but its more his throat/lungs.  He can smell the food when we bring it to him and will eat it at times or just turn away from it.  I can tell a difference when using tuna juice vs chicken broth, he likes the tuna much better.  I read something on here about FortiFlora, and have called the vet about that being an option this morning.  But that still does not help with his breathing issue, I have talked to a co-worker who mentioned and oxygen cage, is anyone familiar with these and if they are helpful.  Going to try the shower steam option as well.  My biggest thing is I don't want to cause undue stress on him again.

Thank you again for the help and well wishes!!

Many cats love Fortiflora as a topper on their food.  Two of mine do, one hates it
.  If he likes any type of treat, you can also crush those and sprinkler over his wet food.  You definitely should discuss with your Vet the issues with using the AeroKat and see if there is any alternative since using it stresses him out so badly.  I wonder if you could just kind of hold it close to his nose when he's sleeping so he get a little bit of it?
Have you tried using a calming aid first?  Something like Bach's Rescue Remedy for pets?
