Hi all

Chester is my special needs kitty.  He has had a level 3-4 out of 6 heart murmur for 7 years now and has been on meds for it.  Recently he started showing signs of thyroid problems and I brought him to the vet, who then diagnosed the problem with some blood tests (he also had high liver enzymes, but the vet said that that is often connected to the thyroid and should go down with treatment).  We put him on meds and he was getting better for about 2 weeks.  This week he began to vomit throughout the day...like 10 times a day.  He's eating, drinking and using the bathroom fine, with a little bit of loose stool.  He also started to scratch...all of which are possible side effects of the new meds.   I brought him to the vet again on Thursday, who agreed that he is probably allergic to the meds and had me take him off of them and gave him injections of an anti nausea and an anti histamine.  He's been drowsy but ok for 2 days now.  I spoke with the vet tech yesterday, and she said that the drowsiness is from the benadryll injection and would be speaking to the vet about putting him on the prescribed hills diet on Monday morning.

Today he's thrown up twice.  I'm assuming that it's the injections having worn off.  When I read online it says that it can take a few days for the allergy effects to wear off.  I'm going to call in tomorrow to talk with the vet anyway, so I'll let them know then.  He continues to eat, drink and use the bathroom ok.

I was wondering if anyone knew if I could use gravol for settling the stomach until tomorrow, and if so, how much?   I know this post is long, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that the vet is involved and until this morning is aware of what's going on.  I just want to keep him comfortable until my next consult.

thanks

I would not give him gravol without consulting the vet. Given that he has had various other meds recently,ni would be worried about drug interactions.

What meds was he on for the thyroid issue? Methimazole?

That's a good point.

Felimazole 2.5mg twice a day.

He's also on Atenol and asprin for his heart.

not really an option for me.  It's so expensive....and I can't find $1000-$1500 for a procedure for him...besides, he's already some compromised with his heart it could kill him.

My Fenfen was diagonosed with heart murmur and hyperthyroidism last Nov and since then be on dosage monitor to get her T4/T3 down to normal (only to reveal that she got cancer). I searched online and discussed with my vets since thyroid problem can also be triggered by tumor. maybe to rune a X-ray (which is not so expensive) to make sure it is just thyroid. Hope he will be better.
