About halfway through the above article, it says this about Rutin:

A supplement called rutin may be a beneficial treatment in some cats with chylothorax. It is thought to stimulate cells called macrophages to remove the fat in the chyle, and may reduce the amount of fluid accumulation. Rutin is available at pharmacies and health stores.

Hi

Here is a link to some info. It is an advanced paper written for veterinarians so it may be a bit hard to understand.

I think that the thing we have to figure out is: What is the fluid? and how did they figure out what the fluid was? What did the fluid look like? Did they do a microscopic (they better have ) and if they did what did they see? Can they tell where the fluid is coming from? What did the radiographs show? What did the ultrasound show? Have they been giving the kitten iv fluids? Does the kitten have a heart murmer? Have they done any blood work? Why do they want you to put the kitten to sleep?

That is a good place to start. Get copies of your kittens records. You have every right to them.

What part of the world/ country are you in?

Get back to me with that information if you can. If you can't answer anything but the where you live part, that is fine. I will check to see if you have any support (financial) in your area and also see what specialists you have out there.

There is a site, or at least there was, called imom.org It is a site where you can sign up and ask people for financial support. There was a client at my work once that used it and it was a great help to him.

Your vet sounds like a dick. Excuse the language and my presumptions about someone I don't know. But from what you have described of him it seems to me that way. Then again I am pretty intolerant of most people.

How are you holding up? I know this has to be gut wrenching. I am truly sorry.

It is a lymphatic fluid. It is not all that easily diagnosed as you can see by the article and I would be hesitant to believe everything being said. Did they send the fluid out? Or did the vet read it in house (at the hospital)?

Did the vet mention FIP? If he did then read the article because FIP effusions are different (if I remember right)

I'm so sorry about your kitten. Fluid in the abdominal and/or chest cavity can be caused by a few things, some of which are fatal. It sounds like your vet is only telling what is there, but they are not helping to figure out why.  Did they give you any inclination as to why the fluid is there? One thing that comes to mind is a condition called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Unfortunately, there is no cure.

I'm not sure how to help you.
Without knowing anything, without having any blood work or tests done, I'm not sure what to suggest.

Have you called around to other vets, shelters, rescues, etc. to see if they can help you out? Friends, family, co-workers?

Very good idea. Be sure to get copies of all your records, radiographs, ultrasound report and pictures to take with you so none of the diagnostics done have to be redone. Don't worry about the vets "feelings". I don't know what part of the country or world you are in but there are veterinary teaching hospitals all over. Sometimes you can get in on a study for a certain disease or symptom.

Try to get in with a specialist if you can. Try a university. Sometimes it can save you money in the long run. Also sometimes they can offer more in the way of financial flexibility. Stay away from large corporation veterinary hospitals (in my personal experience) they are not usually able to do anything in regards to payment plans or financing.

The bottom line is that you love your kitty and your kitty knows that. The short amount of time you have had your kitten does not mean that the love you feel for her is small. Much the opposite. Your kitty knows you love her and that is so much more than most kittens ever get to know. Hope that makes sense. Your kitty knows that no kitten has been loved more. That says allot.

Try to find the closest vet school to you and see if they are doing any clinical trials. Feel free to write into any doctor and every doctor you can. send pics of your kitten to them. you never know. One may be able to help you. You don't know till you try. There is also a financial assistance page of this site I believe.

Also getting all the paper work to take to the other vets for tomorrow. .. I'm so sorry for not answering questions. I'm very upset

Shell;

Don't worry about not answering questions on here. It sounds like you don't know allot of the answers to the questions I have asked. I ask allot of questions. That is what I do. I don't expect answers. I just kind of cast a thousand lures and hope I get a bite.

Of course you are a zombie. You are probably in a state of shock right now.

It is good that you found another vet that will help you. That is important. Good that you are able to get the records. You are doing all you can. Get some rest and figure this all out after you have rested. When you can before your next vet visit write down a list of questions to ask the new vet and write down the answers they give you. That can be helpful because usually when at the vet people are to upset to remember their names let alone everything that was said to you.

Try to stay positive if you can and think good thoughts about your kitten. Keep your energy good. What happens will happen. but know you are doing everything that you can do.

Get some rest if you can for now and let us know what happens

I just saw the news, so here we go, this is very serious as surely you know. But it is not necessarily a death sentence.

I have copied some pretty decent and understandable info here on what is a lymph, since this is where chylo fluid comes from, the lymph system.

What Is Lymph?
We all know what blood is. We all know that
blood circulates in veins and arteries and is
moved by the pumping action of the heart. In
fact, there is another circulatory system in the
body: the lymphatic system. Lymph fluid
represents extra fluid draining from between the
cells of the body, gradually channeling into lymph
vessels. The fluid is moved by the natural
movement of the body and its muscles. Lymph
circulates through lymph nodes where cells of the
immune system are exposed to the "drift wood"
of debris that the lymph fluid has picked up. In
this way, the immune system sees infection,
tumor cells, foreign organisms etc. Cells that
circulate in the lymph fluid help fight infection, and
eventually the lymph fluid circulation ends by
merging into the bloodstream. Lymph fluid is full of fat because fat is absorbed into the lymphatic
system (the lacteals) of the intestine after digestion. Lymphatic fluid (also called chyle) contains
fat, water, and lymphocytes (cells of the immune system).
When something goes wrong with the circulation of the lymph fluid, lymph fluid can accumulate in
the chest and/or abdomen.

Okay, causes, the chyle present throws me off here. Chyle, being from the lymph system, means possible liver disease, heart failure, tumor, heartworm, or trauma.

The very best site I have found that is very simple to comprehend is this.

http://www.cat-world.com.au/Cat-Health-Collection/ascites-in-cats.html

There are things that can help her, but ultimately it will likely be surgery, depending on just what has caused this.

She does need some of that heavy fluid accumilation taken out, via a catheter, it is extremely important to get some pressure off of her organs ASAP.

They will likely not remove it all, as it will leave her depleted of her protein reserves.

You know, I suspected FIP. I have to admit. But FIP fluid is not milky chylo, it is pale yellow/gold in color. The white (chylo) is fat. This is not seen in FIP fluid.

FIP is not curable.

What info we have so far on your kitty, it sounds like there are some things that can be done to help/fix her, depending on where it is coming from and why.

I will be back.
