This can also be a blood parasite. Usually if this is a parasite, the cat's fur will be dull, she will be boney but have a pot belly, won't play much and have diarrhea.

My concern is always, when a kitten this age develops a swollen/bloated tummy, of course my mind goes to fip since it's so ugly.

When you see the vet, he will feel and can tell if it's  fluidy or not, if it's fluidy, he will be unable to feel her organs well, and will take a sample of the fluid.

If it is not fluidy, he will be feeling her organs for enlargement, etc.

He will also want to do a fecal test looking for the culprit being a parasite. These are sometimes hard to detect, so if it is not fluid filled, be sure to request the more indepth poop test. There are several more accurate ones than the standard float.

Thanks heap. I'll ring the vets tomorrow and see if they can give bells a stool test. Hopefully its just a parasite. Can the parasite be detected on xray?

This seems quite urgent, she is hugely bloated.

Very concerned here, please update as soon as possible.

I don't believe an x-ray is going to show parasites. They are microscopic. She def. does NOT look prego, your vet can rule this right out! That's not what a prego cat looks like.

She seems ready to burst.

Hopefully she can be seen before Thursday!

I was speaking to the vet nurse last night. She was going to see what she could do. Hopefully can get her in today to the vets. I'm so scared, I don't want to lose her [emoji]128543[/emoji] she means everything to me. I just don't know what it is

VERY good news, I really think at this point it's become urgent due to the volume she has can really affect her organs, they get smashed.

Yes I was able to get her to the vets, they're going to keep her there overnight, then do xrays in the morning. I have my fingers crossed that it's all good news. I have been a nervous wreck for the last week

Perfect, she is in a good safe place now, and they know what they're doing, so let's just hope for the very best for her, and you!

Did the vet say anything to you about anything?

Did he mention if it feels fluidy or not?

Hi.

Probably late with this, but it would be a good idea to get her in with a specialist that does ultrasound. The reason for a specialist is that usually they charge about the same for an ultrasound. An ultrasound is very subjective. You want a doctor that does 100 ultrasounds a week to ultrasound your kitten not a doctor that does 3 a week. An ultrasound is your best method for imaging if you have fluid. An xray is best for air. So chest you want an xray, abdomen you want an ultrasound. Air in an xray shows up black where as in an ultrasound it shows up white. And vice versa.

Does your kitten ever pant? How does she breath? If your vet isn't able to give you any answers please ask them to refer you to a specialist. If they are not able to tell you what is going on with your kitty get her out of there and to someone that does. I cannot understand why they would not do an immediate parasite check on any baby animal. I mean it isn't rocket science here. Not that that is what is going on here. But it would be nice to rule it out.

So, bottom line is you need diagnostics to figure out what is going on. The basic plan in order would be, I would think, Fecal check for parasites, Felv/ Fiv test, ultrasound, CBC/Chem panel out to the lab. Whole body radiographs. Special blood tests as indicated including a hemobart check.

I sure hope your kitty is okay.

Is anyone there at the hospital overnight?

Hi

I am so sorry for what you and your sweet kitty are going through. I have to look something up and will reply as soon as I do. Do you know what any of her blood work showed? Did they mention her having a high globulin or total protein? Do they know where the fluid is coming from? What are they doing with her now? is she at home or with them?

I will reply again shortly
