Can I use freeze dried raw nuggets as a topper?

I've got a bunch of cans of food that my cats only feel "eh" about sitting in my pantry.  These are foods that are considered "better" foods.  I also have some Primal freeze dried nuggets,  I have two question related to the Primal.

First, is it ok to use the nuggets crumbled into the "eh" food to entice them to eat the "eh" food?  I know it's important to rehydrate the nuggets if I am going to feed them alone; but I am hoping it would be OK to use it as an enticement for the foods they aren't thrilled about.

Second, am I right in that if I want to use the Primal as a meal, then I need to work them up to it?  If I rehydrate the nuggets, I should only give them a little a time into their regular wet food, right?

I love this site, I love the knowledge here and the willingness of all to help those who just learning!

Absolutely you can use Primal as a topper if they like it crumbled dry. I have used Stella & Chewy's like that.

It's usually a good idea to introduce new food, especially raw, gradually. You can mix it into their food at first. You can also try it separately.

Thank you for your reply.  I do love this site, but sometimes it seems the more I read the more dizzy & confused I get, lol.  There are so many helpful and enthusiastic cat owners here, and each seems to have a different opinion on every single type of food.  Don't get me wrong, I have learned SO MUCH here and my cats are better for it.  My vet never told me to stop feeding kibble to my kidney cat, I only learned that from doing my own research, and landing here and elsewhere.

We are on a very, very tight budget and I had gotten to the point where I was cutting down the human grocery bill in order to spend more money on cat food.  I had to smack myself in the head and re-think my priorities.  I am not going back to kibble, that much is sure.  But I have to stop feeling guilty if I need to feed FF classics or Friskies pate among the rotation for a while.

Definitely don't feel guilty. We all do the best we can within our means. :)

Every brand of cat food has its advantages and disadvantages, that's why everyone has an opinion.

I've used Stella and Chewy's as a treat, left as is. As long as you're feeding wet food for the main meals you'll be OK (no more than 10% of food from dry sources).

Homemade raw or cooked meals are often cheaper than canned foods. You do have to learn how to balance the meal, but the raw forum has some excellent teachers in there as well.
