Anyone tried this?

I bought a few cans of Wild Calling - Beef, Lamb, Duck, Buffalo, Pheasant, Pork.

These are all 13oz dog food cans.  I add a taurine supplement.  Aside from taurine, there's no difference in ingredients between the 13oz dog cans or the 5.5oz cat size.

I've only tried the Lamb and Buffalo so far. He took forever to eat the Lamb and he's barely eating the Buffalo.  I suppose I've finally found some proteins he doesn't like.   I'd find it hard to believe it's the brand, perhaps just too heavy a protein source.

Wild Calling Duck 5.5oz is one of the three foods that my cat will eat on a regular basis. It has a 10% fat content which helped her regain some weight. It is strong smelling and does give the bowel movement an aroma that travels. My cat does not cover up. Not all flavours are available in my area, but she didn't like the few available other flavours I tried. Sent Wild Calling an email recently to ask about phosphorous content - they didn't email back.

I purchased a can of Wild Calling on two separate occasions to give this brand a try. The Rabbit and I think the other was Duck. The color of the pate was beige and tinged with grey rather than a solid brown, pink or beige color, and the smell was horrid. I ended up throwing both cans out rather than feeding this, as I wasn't going to chance it in case what I was seeing and smelling wasn't right.

I have talked to stores that sell Wild Calling and they say customers report that cats like it well enough but I was not impressed.

I have fed Nature's Variety Lamb to my crew, and everyone (including my fussy female) liked this and ate it. The Lamb is definitely a heavier food than say chicken or turkey, and so I add water to the meat. The Lamb, Rabbit, Venison, Beef and Chicken in the dog food is the same formula that is in the cat food. No need to add taurine.

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I'm familiar with Nature's Variety dog food having the taurine.  Unfortunately it's on the steep end of premium foods, so I'm happy to add taurine to the Wild Calling dog cans, which share the same ingredients as the smaller cat cans, minus the taurine.

It was worth a shot, I'll likely stick to Rabbit,Beef,Venison,Duck,Chicken which I know he'll eat.

They also have Pheasant, which I've tried once and he liked, but haven't found again.  Maybe it'll be hunting season now or the fall,  not sure.

I've now tried Wild Calling - Beef, Buffalo, & Lamb.   He grudgingly ate Lamb, but wanted nothing to do with the Beef or Buffalo.

For reference, my cat loves Evo 95% Beef, or Hound&Gatos-Beef (dog can).

There's either something unique to Wild Calling that he doesn't like, or the meat is possibly 'off'? It certainly does smell...different but I just can't place the odour.

I tried feeding him the Wild Calling  Beef or Buffalo twice each.  Each time, he backed away and shook a paw.  Kind of like we would do when we shiver I suppose.

Anyway, thought I'd mention that. I know some people's cats enjoy Wild Calling here, so I guess it's trial and error.

I'm going to compare the ingredients of the 3 Beef brands I've tried to see what the difference is.

How do you know they are the same minus taurine? I would like to try the larger cans if all I had to do is add taurine.

Did the company tell you this?

The executive VP of Wild Calling told me this on the phone, when I called to inquire about their questionable calorie content label.  Which at the time was incorrect.  The newer batch of cans have the updated labels on them.

Here's the ingredients from their 'Hoppy' (Rabbit) canned foods. There are some differences, such as Brewer's Dried Yeast, or Sodium Selenite in the cat food, but I can't imagine either of those are actual requirements for a cat to thrive.

Having said that - I doubt I'll bother with Wild Calling aside from one final test - I'm gong to try rabbit or even their chicken, because I know my cat will eat either readily from any other brand.  Something fishy about my cat not wanting to touch their Buffalo, or especially Beef version, considering my cat will eat Beef from any other brand.

I just got duck and chicken free samples. Female refused and male took 1 hour to eat with toppers added, so I would never buy it.[emoji]128078[/emoji][emoji]128078[/emoji][emoji]128078[/emoji][emoji]128576[/emoji]
