I have a Siamese cross cat that is around 15 years old. He's been having issues lately with runny eyes,congestion, coughing and wheezing. My vet couldn't find anything with a scan and blood-work, and put him on a pill that is a bronchodilator medicine after his 3rd visit to the clinic. It hasn't seemed to help and he is slowly getting worse and I now have an appointment with another vet that was recommended. Anything that I should be asking? Anyone have a similar experience?

It doesn't like asthma to me.  It sounds like a upper respiratory infection.  Has your cat been around other cats recently or been outside? Runny eyes and congestion and congestion sounds like an infection, wheezing and coughing could be either a URI or asthma.  Runny eyes is not a symptom of asthma.  See these links on asthma below.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

To answer your question, my cat Gremlin does occasionally go outside either on a harness or with me in the fenced yard. He was a rescue kitty so I'm not sure what he might have been exposed to before I had him. I adopted him with another Siamese cat - a bonded pair- and unfortunately Samson died of heart failure when he was 13 years old. This was about 2 years ago and the remaining cat has never been the same since.

I agree that it seems unlikely that Gremlin has asthma but they treated his symptoms which involved hunching over coughing and wheezing. My vet had speculated that it may also be food allergies and I switched him to a limited source diet which hasn't improved him. A blood test has shown no abnormalities so I'm going for a second opinion since the asthma medication has done very little other than suppress his cough.
I will ask about the possibility that he has a URI, but from my first visit they put him on clavamox antibiotic. If it's viral is there really anything that can be done?

@Surlyse

The hunching over and wheezing/coughing does sound like asthma so its confusing.  Most of the cats Ive seen with asthma are treated with an inhaler that is attached to a special tube like device that is briefly held over the cat's mouth.  You could discuss this option with your vet.

Has you cat had contact with other cats? This is how he would get an URI if that's what it is.

Did you have that second vet visit?
