HELP!!!! My sweet little Teeny GIrl ( 10 years old, domestic mix) began sneezing, rapid fire sneezing, reverse sneezing and has a runny nose to the point of sometimes choking everyday.  She has started to loose a little weight ( she was already teeny - hence the name)  because I think she can't smell her food.  This started in July of 2013.  It is now May 2014 and very little has appeared to effect a change.  I switched her diet to a new/unique protein source thinking it was a food allergy - Nothing.  When they sedated her to clean her teeth, I had them flush her nose - some help but it came back.  Doc's looked under her soft palate and found nothing.  The ONLY thing that has worked was a shot of Ivermectin which is used to treat nose mites in dogs.  For one week no sneezing, or runny nose.  Now three weeks later we are back where we started.  I am giving her  L lysine just to rule out a herpes virus but after one week, I don't see any improvement.

I know it is hard to find the cause of sneezing in cats but I am wondering if anyone has had experience with Nose Mites and what the treatment was.  I am wondering if the adults were killed by the Ivermectin but then the larvae hatched and here we are again.

Thanks for any help - I like my Vet but I can not get her to call me back.  Very frustrated.

I have never heard of nose mites, BUT, I have heard of something that is actually quite rare in cats, but it does occur once in awhile, and that is nasal polyps.  One of our long time members rescued a senior cat recently who had a horrible constant nose drainage issue and they could not get it to stop, so suspected it might be nasal polyps.  In that case, though, I don't think there was sneezing involved...just the constant drainage
.

Could your little one be suffering from allergies?  With the rapid fire sneezing the running nose, sounds like ME during allergy season.  I know cats can definitely suffer from allergies, like hay fever.  Have you discussed that with your Vet?  I think most cats with this type of issue get treated with OTC Zyrtec, if I'm not mistaken, although you need to have your Vet tell you how much, based on her weight, etc.
