I tried posting here the other day, but my post was lost in cyberspace when I tried to add a smilie. Oh well...I'll get the hang of it one of these days. There will be no smilie in this post...I don't want to type and lose it all again.

I've already posted in the behavior area. One of my new kittens brought me to your site. I have five felines...Serena, Samantha, Grace, Mikey, and Murphy. Serena and Samantha are about 15 years old, Grace is around 8, and Mikey and Murphy and around five and six months old. We also have a dog named Shelby who is 13 years old and thinks she's a cat. She insists that Grace groom her. She pushes her head up against Grace and Grace knows exactly what to do. She cleans Shelby's face, ears, mouth, etc.

We also have a feral cat that we consider our outside cat. Her name is MaMa and she had two litters in our shed before we trapped her with a humane trap and had her fixed. We kept the first litter (three kittens) and my son kept two from the second litter and my husband's co-worker took the third kitten. We made a mistake and didn't have MaMa tested for feline luekemia when we had her fixed. We also didn't have the kittens tested. We chose to just have them vaccinated. To make a long story short...all of the kittens ended up dying except for one of the kittens that my son took. He has since tested negative for feline leukemia. Actually, one of the kittens we kept also ended up testing negative, but she died from some other horrible cat disease (I just can't remember the name right now.) It was a horrible ordeal. We were attached to all of them and it was heart breaking to lose them. Fortunately, none of our other cats became ill and they've all since tested negative. MaMa seems to be healthy and we've been feeding her for two and a half years now.

We recently adopted two kittens at Petsmart. They were already fixed, tested, and vaccinated when we brought them home. I'll never bring another cat into our home without having him/her tested first. I guess that's the moral of my story.

I know I'll find this site informative and helpful. Thanks.

Welcome! Thanks for sharing your story, it was so heartwarming and sad in parts. RIP your dear departed kitties, and a woohoo for bringing 2 more kitties into your lives! We've also just adopted a kitten recently.

Look forward to hearing more about your cats, and we love pics!

That was really great of you to take care of a feral like that. This site is home to many rescuers and caregivers with wonderful advice and wisdom. Welcome to TCS!

Welcome to the site! Your words are very wise, and it is always important to at least keep resident pets completely separated from new cats (no matter how they are acquired) until they are given a clean bill of health.

I do hope you enjoy your time here! There is so much to learn here, and the most wonderful people are a part of this site.

I'm not too computer savy, but I did read the information on linking pictures and need more time to try and figure it all out. I'm leaving on a trip Saturday and won't be back until after the 20th. I'll work on figuring it out after the trip.
Meanwhile, I do have a picture trail album at www.picturetrail.com/bettymartin. There's an album called "Our Four Legged Family Members" if you want to take a look.

For some reason that link doesn't work. Just go to www.picturetrail.com and type in BettyMartin (all one word)under visit album. That should take you to it.
