Hello,

My 12-yr old male ragdoll has been having urinary problems for the better part of the past 2 years.  Tomorrow will be his third trip to the vet for this issue.   The past couple instances he would show blood in his urine and also go back and fourth to the litter box as if he was straining to urinate.  The vet analyzed the urine and saw no crystals nor infection.  He was given an antibiotic and a prescription for prazosin (blood pressure med to "relax the urethra") and the feline version of xanax (useless for this issue, and will never give to my cat again).  I posted my problem on this forum back in November and received helpful advice regarding diet, water intake, etc., and have since switched him to a canned food diet (which I add even more water to) along with sprinkling capsules of cosequin powder on the food.  I had hoped that these modifications would remedy the issue.  Unfortunately here we are again, with the poor guy walking around anxiously, attempting to squat in non-ideal locations.  I get it - he's associating the litter box with pain and/or discomfort.  My vet does not seem to offer much help.  He's not blocked, as I still see him urinating...however the urine contains blood droplets.  Any further advice appreciated.  Is there a specific canned food that is ideal for this?

thanks

J
