Urine Smell

Hi Everybody....

I am new to the forum and i have an amazing 8 year old Russian blue named Gizmo.Lately she has some really smelly urine like an unneutered male cat.She has been spayed and has been to the vet regularly and is in perfect health but this past week her urine has been really smelly...I was wondering if it maybe just age as she had a checkup just last month and everthing was fine.She is drinking and behaving normally other than that.

Will age be a factor?

Age itself should not be a factor. Usually smelly urine is very concentrated urine. How often does she pee? What is her diet: dry, wet or both? When was the last time blood work and an urinalysis were done?

Hi and thanks for replying.....She pees as normal as she always did...her urine doesn't seem to be discolored or anything like that..she is on dry and wet but mostly wet as she is spoiled..she had a full work up a month ago..teeth..bloodwork etc and she came out very healthy and this was happeneing then that's why i took her in just too be sure where she's becoming a senior.

I'd take your kitty to the vet. Especially if his drinking and eating haven't changed. The urine shouldn't be so strong smelling all of a sudden. I know it doesn't smell like roses but it's still worth a call.

I found out that it was her anal glands that were the problem i have taken care of it for her and she is no longer smelly in the litter
