I have a few kinda feral cats I had TNR and I continue to feed and have a little shelter for them . Yesterday morning the cat was fine then in the afternoon the 1 yr old cat started limping and licking her leg . I do see a dime size black spot on the leg but can't get that great of a look . I Almost caught her but she jumped out of the carrier ! Now she is watching us from a distance . The question is .. Should I wait and see or should I just keep traumatizing her or should I give it a day or 2?

That's tough. It could be so many things. Unless she has any other symptoms I would keep a close eye on her and wait and see a day or two. Of course if it seems to be getting worse or is really bothering her take her straight to the vet.

Do you think you could get a picture of the black spot?

Thank you for your response ! I felt we had to catch the cat ASAP so right after I posted this we got her ! We took the cat to the vet and it seemed the care as bitten and had a abcess with lots of fluid . Her leg is wrapped up and the poor thing has a cone on her head . We have a large cage we are keeping her in. She is extremely friendly and just wants attention & food. She sees the vet tomorrow to remove the bandage. Do you think they will remove the cone as well ? And she hasn't went to the bathroom at all ! But is eating canned food but hardly drinking ! Should I call the vet today or is it ok to wait till we see the vet tomorrow?

I would try to get SOME kind of liquid down her as soon as you can, tuna juice, gravy off of canned food, or anything with liquid. If you can get her to drink some tuna juice, then you could wait, but she has to start going to the bathroom before her kidneys start to fail. Good luck!

Thank you ! She has been licking her juice from her canned food. Maybe I can put some tuna juice or something on a spoon and see if she drinks some.

I'm so glad you got the kitty to the vet and that she's getting the care she needs. Abcesses can be so painful. How is the little girl doing now? Is she eating and drinking better and out of the horrid cone? Please give us a little update if you get a chance.

Kitty is eating so much better now ! She isn't drinking but I been adding water to her food so now she's getting plenty of water . She went to the vet again on Friday and had the wound cleaned and wrapped again, she goes back to the vet today . Fingers crossed they can take the bandage off today , the cone on her head is driving her nuts ! We may keep her as an indoor cat cause she just isn't made for the outdoors . But her brother still lives outside and they miss each other :-/ so I'm not sure what to do ?!?

It's a tough decision, but if you let her back outdoors she more then likely will get bit again, my feral gets at least two abscesses a year. Is the brother neutered? Can you tame him too? Like I said it's a tough call. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you for your responses :-) . The brother is neutered , and he is sweet as well , he's just a little more afraid then his sister . We have a small apartment but hope to move in the nxt year . We are thinking to catch the brother as well and tame him all in due time . Then hopefully we can adopt them both out to a loving home . I love cats but 4 is a little much for me .
