I've read that one should microchip their cat when they are young.

I decided early on that because my Ragdoll boy was 100% indoors that I didn't want to do that - no reason too. Well, with some of the violent weather we've experienced of late I realized that even though it is a small chance, it is possible that a tornado could come through resulting in displacing him outside (while I'm at work, for instance). As a side note, in the last month he has become a door dasher. Fortunately he is a clumsy door dasher and it only leads to a hallway instead of the great outdoors.

So I'm reconsidering it. He is 15 months old. Is there some age where it isn't recommended (hey, it IS a foreign object under the skin)? Reconsidering.

I believe there's no age restrictions to microchipping. i chipped my cat when he was 2 years old. It'll be a great peace of mind for you!

I would put your mind at ease and call the vet, surely they could answer that over the phone. I agree with Draco, I don't think there are any restrictions. Post back when you find out!

go for it!  i had piglet chipped just before her second birthday.  my vet routinely offered to chip my old man cat, even when he was over 10 years old.

Do it!!  For peace of mind, if nothing else.  I had my Callie chipped when she was older and never regretted my decision.

I got my kitten chipped with her first injection. Was abit traumatic i think for her as the chip inj was bigger than i thought but glad i did it out the way. The vets we use are registered with the cats protection league amd it was only £12.00. I rang a different vet for a price £26.00!!!

Thank you. Will be a bit spendy with 3 kittens but worth it in the long run.

Mine are indoor kittens and always will be but they are sneaky little buggers and know where both doors are. Mew will race us for the back door (primary door we use) and she is fast! However if we eat her or get out into the laundry room, Mew can no longer slide under the door(s) lol! None of them can which is a big relief for me.

The fee to get them chipped is not much, but the fee to register them with the chipping company can be $35/yr or more.  It just depends.
