Brought in a very pregnant stray cat last night.  Got up this morning to take her to the vets to see how far along she is.  She had bad diarrhea & peed all over herself and the towel she was on.  At the vet they did an x-ray and saw at least 4 kittens, but couldn't say how far along she is.  Back at the house she continues to just have the diarrhea squirt out without squatting ( like just laying there or walking around it happens).   She is currently curled up beside/behind me in some towels purring & kneading.   Any thoughts, vets not back in office until 2:30pm, on if we are in labor?

I would suggest washing her entire butt area now if possible.  You can usually do this on the kitchen counter with the rear feet in the sink (no water in sink), use a little mild dish soap and water and rinse with the dish sprayer.  Labor doesn't cause diarrhea but it does usually cause the cat to empty her bowels before the birth.  If this cat has something else going on to cause the diarrhea, that will be an issue for the vet.  Call him back when he gets in at 2:30.  If you need to read up on what to expect with the delivery, we have some good articles here on TCS.

I agree with the above.   Want to add.

With heavy watery diarrhea some sort of  pedialyte may be good.   Home made or bought.    So she will get some electrolytes and salts.  A basic pedialyte works also  in some degree as a stopper for diarrhea.    Give her much and often, so she wont get dehydrated.

Im not saying this instead of contacting the vets, but as a fill up.   Mention to them this my advices if you wish.

You can probably also use  bottled water made from natural source - contains lotsa of salts.  Let the gas get out first.    You can use it like it is, but ideally mix in some glucose sugar (brand name may be dextrose, or honey).    Say, 18 g / litre, or 5-6 g in a usual  0,33 bottle.

Should work fine, although quality bottled water is rather costly.

A similiar but cheaper receipt is,

1,5 soup   ...  of   glucose sugar or honey or white caro syrup   =15-18g

1  coffe  ...  of  kitchen salt   = 3 g

Use  Preferably minerale kitchen salt, with several different  salts as they are, but common kitchen salt with just  Na + Cl works OK.

a trifle bikarbonate = baking soda if you have, is good, but not necessary.

Everything solved in 1 litre water.

Heat up and stir, cool down to body temperature, or even room temp,  use.  If necessary in very minute portions, one swallow every 5 minutes.

Another receipt is:

1 litre water after well cooked rice, ie rice you had overboiled long and well....   Such a water contains  quite a lot of  glucose....

(have much water and not so much rice)

Add salt as above...

Such homemade pedialytes works nicely, both for humans and cats.

They are also the main stopper for the grand manslaughter  cholera.  Taking down death rates from 90 to perhaps 10 procents.

Pedialyte and basic  care.

Good luck!

Thank you guys!  Already got her cleaned and now will get her hydrated, as she seems uninterested in eating.  Many thanks,

leigh
