Hello everyone,

I have been dealing with a very odd thing in our youngest kitty, Russell. We have taken him to the vet many times for this, gotten blood work and exams - no answers.

Every two weeks or so, Russell will get very, very sick for about 4 hours. He will barely move, feet in the air and third eyelids showing. Usually, he will vomit after a couple of hours. After he vomits, he will stay in one spot for another couple of hours, and he is still in pain. When he is like this, he will yowl and cry and look into my eyes. It breaks my heart because I don't know what to do anymore.

After these episodes, he is his normal self 100%. A very energetic young kitty, never angry or crabby.

Has anyone else experienced this with their kitties? He looks like he is in so much pain, like he is going to die. Shallow breathing, frozen in pain, the whole bit. It is important to note that he did NOT have this at all until he was about 4 months old.

Please, if anyone can offer insight I would be very grateful.

Thank you,

Serena

The cat is perfectly aware while this is all happening. I guess I don't want to believe that I've described it to several vets and the possibility of seizures hasn't come up.

It lasts for so long, and is the same the entire time. Can a kitty's seizure last for 4-5 hours and not have the normal seizure phases?

I will definitely be bringing this up with my vet next time an episode occurs. I'll try to bring him in while he's having one, although it is pretty difficult!

my mind went to seizures, too.  you can also try to video it when it's happening; so many of us have phones with cameras!  that's what i did with an asthma attack that piglet had to show the vet.

It could be the initial trigger lasts only a few minutes, but the after effects seem to last the 4-5 hrs.

Thank you! I don't know why I didn't think of that, sheesh! Very helpful. It is so difficult to describe, so obviously my best bet would be to film it.

The last time he had an episode, he vomited about 6 times over the course of 2 hours. One pile had a hairball in it, so I'm wondering: Can hairballs cause severe gastrointestinal distress, to the point of kitty being nearly paralyzed for a few hours? Has anyone had a kitty with a similar experience?

I know that when I throw up, I feel distressed for several hours!  Also, cats can have upset tummies and nausea.  Do you notice muscle tremors, almost like shivers?  That would indicate a build up of toxins in the system.

When I have grand mal seizures... the seizure last from 1 to 4 minutes but the after affects last a lot longer. I feel miserable. My muscles hurt from the seizure... so maybe that is why he doesn't move for a few hours. (((Hugs)))
